YVR
I have been doing a bit of flying out of YVR recently. 2 weeks ago the airport was dead. Cleared for takeoff before I got to the line and the STAR cancelled with a vector direct to final for the South runway, No 1 every time.
However last Tuesday I was departing at about 11:00 and I was No 4 in line. On the way back at about 14:00 I was told the South runway was not available due to departures and given the full Sound 5 to 26R. Taxing to the South side following a AC MAX there seemed to be a lot of occupied gates at the main terminal and it looked like there was 4 jets and 2 T Props lined up on Delta waiting to go off 26L. Also the South ramp was absolutely full of PASCO tin.
The contrast in activity in just a few days was remarkable. Have we turned the corner ?

Turned a corner for sure, but as our Federal government is holding our industry hostage so that they can use us to their advantage in the upcoming election, we are going to be fucked until the election comes.Big Pistons Forever wrote: ↑Sun Jul 11, 2021 10:04 am I have been doing a bit of flying out of YVR recently. 2 weeks ago the airport was dead. No flow yet.
And the airlines held themselves hostage.
Anyone can plan for a two week quarantine both time wise and financially. What they can’t plan for is airlines unilaterally cancelling flights and refusing to offer refunds.
I’m willing to bet that Flairs expansion into the US is in part to take advantage of that. Canadians who won’t forget who ripped them off and like in a federal election simply voting the incumbents out rather than voting someone in.

Exactly - Bob the troll has very little clue, or he's just trying to get a rise out of everyone.
As for planes at all the gates - don't let that fool you. While movements and flights are increasing....lots of those planes on gates are still simply being stored or come in early and park for 20 hours.

None of the planes on gates are being stored except for the 2 Sunwing 737's and while there are some that still do, very few are parked for more than a few hours before heading back out.

Re: YVR
The best part of YVR is the new pilot projects CATSA is doing at the NPS line. They are trying to see if screening you twice slows things down much, and so far having your bag searched and swabbed before standing on the green light red light pad and possibly having them searched a second time in order to promote longer line ups for aircrew as well. So far they had to add turnstyle lines at NPS just like the ones at the regular screening to help...

Email your union and CATSA. If they don't know that it's causing frustration across the board, they won't do anything to change it.co-joe wrote: ↑Sun Jul 11, 2021 9:27 pm The best part of YVR is the new pilot projects CATSA is doing at the NPS line. Been to 40 + countries, arguably YVR coming in (internationally) and leaving, hands down among the worst I’ve ever seen.co-joe wrote: ↑Sun Jul 11, 2021 9:27 pm The best part of YVR is the new pilot projects CATSA is doing at the NPS line. It’s not nice when a very rude agent practically accused me of being a sexual predator —simply because my departure point was Bangkok.
Another time, departure agent felt up my family jewels. I mean, really, and took my wallet away for several minutes. Yes, they do steal. You can look it up.
Yes I’ve complained in detail, the only time I felt it necessary, got a form letter response. CATSA is a joke, rude and poorly trained. Embarrassment to Canada.

This baffles me, why would you even let them touch your wallet? Touching your junk can only be done with the back of their hands in case of pat down. They aren’t border guards, they have zero enforcement power. Grab a cop in the terminal and press charges.rookiepilot wrote: ↑Mon Jul 12, 2021 5:11 pm

Perhaps I’m a bit naive - I’ve just never experience these issues before. YVR must indeed be a special place.

I read the supervisor the riot act. Then caught my flight. Then filed a written complaint. Then tried to follow up, was ignored. I was pissed. Clown show.SAR_YQQ wrote: ↑Wed Jul 14, 2021 10:32 pmThis baffles me, why would you even let them touch your wallet?
