Flight attendants train in self-defense amid spike in unruly passengers

About three-quarters of the incidents reported involve passengers violating or repeatedly defying the federal requirement to wear a face mask when onboard a plane. Another common theme is alcohol -- so much so that many airlines have withheld alcohol service on flights.
Seems like one side effect of social distancing is loss of kindness. Servers at restaurants will be next inline for this kind of training.

When you're masked, important human facial cues are missing, so the default response is uneasiness and hostility. Coupled with drinking and tight quarters, it's a volatile mix. As long as we're fighting each other, we can't have a common understanding of who is f-ing us.montado wrote: ↑Wed Jul 28, 2021 1:10 pm https://www.cnn.com/travel/article/flig ... index.html

But hey, there's an upshot: for just $99 one-way, you can book a surprise boxing match on Spirit, featuring America's best and most diverse athletes.

Yup... I've been overly agitated as well with mask issues. Not only during airport operations, but generally. Seems like everyone has different standards as to when and how to wear your mask. If you put an effort in to comply with the rules, even if you think they are useless, and it's still not enough for people, I can feel the urge to lash out. If you combine that with a jetlag, or a hot airplane before the AC is running, and I can understand people become 'not nice'.ReserveTank wrote: ↑Thu Jul 29, 2021 1:30 amWhen you're masked, important human facial cues are missing, so the default response is uneasiness and hostility. It evolves into being constantly watched, and no matter what you do, someone will always complain. Like life, but under a magnifying glass.
As an AvCanada discussion grows longer:
-the probability of 'entitlement' being mentioned, approaches 1
-one will be accused of using bad airmanship

A little calming music and gentle lavender scent should help overwhelm the fight or flight response to the fear pheromones emitted by stressed mammals on a plane . If that fails a cattle prod will get the attention of even the toughest bull in cattle class .
Realtors used to bake cookies to make a house more appealing during open houses , maybe the scent of cookies might calm people down in theses scary times . Music calms the savage beast . Maybe Benny Hill type music should be played in any confrontations ,hard to be angry when Benny Hill music is playing . Or Circus music just to get the clowns to see how funny they look with the clown squabbling.
Gentle Harp water type music would be my first choice for creating a calm space . A little lavender scent from lavender essential oils ,and we can all calm down . They could sell them on the trolley as well .
Arm the FAs with lavender scented anti viral spray . Ozone or anti microbial once the customers smell the spray has been used they will calm down and emit less pheromones.
Namaste , baby

I think people keep saying social distancing, when in reality it was about physical distancing. There was no need to cut off your social circles, you could keep your network just had to find creative ways to socialize.
Now that this was lost in translation, people look at everyone like robots. There’s no more social connection, no more empathy.
Sounds like many nurses are leaving their jobs because they are tired of dealing with people. They have one person who comes in and calls them a sheep for following protocol, and the very next person gives them a hard time for not wearing enough ppe.
We have made it acceptable to virtue signal at each other over masks. Funny enough, here is some of the consequences. People will literally be leaving their jobs over the impact the masking has had. So think about what masks have done to protect people from covid, and think about the consequences. Remember how people said “it’s so easy just wear a mask, it causes no harm”. Well apparently people are leaving jobs, airplanes have been diverted, and children are more fucked up than they already were with anti social computer devices. I’ll take every opportunity I can get for my kids to interact with other kids without masks. Might be more important for their future than some choose to acknowledge.

Since they’re serving beverages and food again, I spent half of my last deadhead muzzle free since I’m a slow eater. I don’t know how people wear those things all day, it’s disgusting and dehumanizing.

If you try that on United, some light-loafered FA will swiftly remind you that you are to wear your mask "between bites and sips." The esses are spoken with maddeningly excessive siblance.
