CDC says delta variant spreads as easy as chickenpox

CDC warns lawmakers that delta variant is as contagious as chickenpox and may make people sicker than original Covid

If masks policy was 1.9 percent effective against the alpha variant, how effective will they be against delta?

It’s probably time for everyone to wear 3m respirators. Surely policy should adapt to the science. If delta spreads more, and makes us more sick, and the vaccines don’t do anything to prevent you from spreading this to other people. Then I think it’s fair to say mask policy that didn’t really work great the first round is certainly not good enough for the next wave.

Time to have a chicken pox party then........ Gotta ramp up the fear because even the vaccinated sheeple are growing tired of the hoax.

Or maybe the vaccines don’t work against the Delta Force?

Y'know... I'll make this brief.

COVID is not a hoax. The Delta variant is not a hoax (unfortunately). Vaccines are safe and effective. And this f@#$cking pandemic is not anywhere near as close to the end as I, and many others, were hoping it was.

None of us chose this, but it is what it is. With what is now known of the transmissibility of the delta variant, and with various jurisdictions continuing to relax restrictions - most of us will probably be exposed to it sooner or later. Masking, social distancing, etc will be important to maintain where able for the time being. Vaccines provide very good personal protection, even if there is less protection for other than with early COVID variants. If you're unvaccinated, your chances of being infected in the next few months are probably pretty high. And from what is known of the Delta variant in particular - that's really best avoided, vaccinated or not. If you're not vaccinated, just do it. It's not a government/business/Bill Gates/Amazon/whater the f%*$ck people keep telling me it is conspiracy. It's just not.

A few weeks ago it looked like we were on track to start moving on - and I hope current, early data on this isn't correct. But what it points to now is that we're not done yet. (Again, unfortunately).

Can you define "probably pretty high"?

We have 500 cases/ day being reported in this country, and when you look at the data you see: "It includes confirmed and probable cases" and "It shows positive tests, which differ from positive cases".

So what do you think the real number is when you remove the positive tests that aren't positive cases and remove the cases that can't be confirmed?

The Lancet last year estimated false positive tests in the 0.8-4.0% range... Ontario most recently did about 21,000 tests with a positivity rate of 1.1%. And to be clear positive tests are not positive cases although they count them as such.

But it's a probably pretty high chance...

Maybe I'll get infected, but I wouldn't put it at probably pretty high by the way I would use that term... it's probably like I'm probably pretty high chance to get measles, and that's no joke as it's on the rise worldwide and with many countries suspending their measles vaccination campaigns to vaccinate for Covid we will see that mushroom... Measles has a reproductive value in the 12-18 range, compared to covid in the 2-3 range, it's particularly deadly for children, and death rates as high as 6% in developed countries to 30% in underdeveloped countries of all cases. And they're focusing on covid...

I think it's probably pretty high time for the world to refocus and move on...

If they're so effective then why after a year of wearing them do we still have covid?

Mask policyis an effective way to stop the spread of covid when used with social distancing, hand washing and vaccines.

Your seatbelt analogy is silly. I could turn it back at you and say speed kills so should we change all speed limits to less than 40?

My suggestion is we drop mask rules and issue respirator to everyone. Protect yourself. Why is it I'm supposed to believe someone with a bandana over their face is protecting me? It is poor policy that my health is dependent on other idiots around me.

Mask studies all make me laugh because they like to cherry pick a window of time (when did masks get implemented? As cases began to climb?) The cdc concluded masks are effective because they were implemented on “x” date and then growth slowed “y” days later. It’s not a very scientific lens they draw conclusions on. The cdc specifically talks about growth rates. Ontario has had mask policy for a year now and growth rates have gone up and down in waves. If we dropped mask policy today you would see growth rates increase, no shit, because we are going into flu season. If we drop mask policy in February we will see growth rates decrease, regardless of masking. Is this masks science?

In Ontario mask policy was implemented last summer and then cases increased in the winter. Nothing conclusive.

One mask study was like “we looked at mask policy from March until July, see how cases dropped, masks work!” Then you look from July to December when flu season begins and I’m thinking did they study this time frame? Look at Texas from March 2021 to June… mask policy ended! Clearly masks don’t work if you read my study of that timeframe.

You can’t make this shit up. Actually read these studies!

1) they make their own predetermined cherry picked time frames (we know pandemics hit in waves, if you do nothing at all cases will come in waves. Just because you implement masks at the beginning of flu season and cases then drop off is not some conclusive evidence that masks work)
2) they admit they won’t do an actual study because it would be unethical to do so
3) historically it has been documented that surgical masks don’t have any conclusive evidence that they effectively prevent the spread of the flu.
4) the common language is not that masks are effective. It’s that masks are effective if you social distance, and wash your hands. They like to mash policy together because it’s all smoke and mirrors.

But I’m kind of over it. The whole radical acceptance is sinking in because nothing I say will change any minds. No opinion I have will change policy. Bunker down and keep masking because we will be wearing masks until at least next spring here in Ontario. Experts are warning of a bad influenza season, let’s see how masking holds up this winter. Many people believe there were zero influenza cases and they say it’s because the masks 😂. I guess time will tell how effective masks are.

Masks are highly effective because 99 percent of people wearing a mask today don’t have covid. When they interact with millions of other people they won’t give them covid, because they didn’t have covid to begin with.

Masks work… science! See how much covid was stopped?

We should wear seatbelts even when we aren’t driving! Look how many lives would be saved! Millions of people could wear a seatbelt even when no driving, and if they don’t die, we know seatbelts work! Look how many lives a seatbelt could save if we wear them all the time.

I did a study on condoms. I told everyone wear a condom all the time. No one got pregnant, and no one passed on any infection. This was how I proved condoms work. I think everyone should wear a condom all the time to reduce infection and reduce unwanted pregnancies. Can we mandate condom wearing indoors and mandatory seatbelt at all times? I have proof it works and it’s not even that much of an inconvenience, so everyone will probably like my policy. Just think with all the stinky dinky how many pregnancies we could prevent with mandatory condom wearing, it is certain to keep women away by at least 2 meters. Mandatory condom wearing probably stops covid spread also… I should study this. But my study won’t be peer reviewed because it’s unethical to tell people they have stinky dinky. See how my father didn’t have mandatory condom wearing and look what happened… this little shit popped out. I bet you wish mandatory condom wearing was a thing!

Funny eh, the purpose ( as far as I know) wasn’t to eliminate covid. ( with a vaccine) The purpose was to protect the sick care system. ( I say sick care because since the beginning of this immune system health hasn’t been discussed or addressed… fear kicks the crap out of the immune system) yoga, meditation, exercise, healthy eating, Breathwork and social interaction has been absent from conversation as functioning of the human autonomic nervous system.

I still see people buying sh&&9 loads of sugar and frankenfood at stores which tanks … immunity.

What’s the percentage of serious cases/ deaths? I’m listening… ??!?

Germs are a part of this world and we need to learn how to take care of ourselves, our mental health and our bodies and treat eachother like community members. This will go a long way.

It’s an insanely frustrating situation..

COVID is pretty much over for vaccinated people. We're now just left with all the BS attached to COVID. The only real risk is that the unvaccinated will fill up the hospitals again.

You really have to wake up! Covid is far from over for the vaccinated too; actually it may really become worse!
Look at what’s happening now worldwide…especially in countries with a high percentage of vaccinated…
Vaccinated are the cause of mutation and the vaccine is now becoming useless…very far from being over.

Well, perhaps you would like to look at actual data rather than an animal doctor. In Canada 99% of cases are in unvaccinated people. In the US, 99% of deaths are unvaccinated, and 97% of hospitalisations are unvaccinated. It's higher in the UK, but they used a lot of the AZ vaccine which isn't as effective against the delta variant.

CDC study shows 74% of people infected in Massachusetts Covid outbreak were fully vaccinated

https://www.cnbc.com/2021/07/30/cdc-stu ... nated.html

KEY POINTS

About three-fourths of people infected in a Massachusetts Covid-19 outbreak were fully vaccinated, according to new data published Friday by the CDC.

The new data, published in the U.S. agency’s Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report, also found that fully vaccinated people who get infected carry as much of the virus in their nose as unvaccinated people.

Asymptomatic breakthrough infections might be underrepresented because of detection bias.

Among five Covid patients who were hospitalized, four were fully vaccinated. No deaths were reported.

Influenza average mortality at present vaccination rate has a 10x higher death rate than those vaccinated for covid. Seems like pretty mixed messaging. Why do we need any restrictions if the vaccines are available to everyone, and they are so effective at preventing death? If the figures above are correct it seems like Alberta is nailing it. Stop testing, life back to normal. If you think the risk of covid is the chance you want to take rather than the vaccines have at it. CDC has already established that vaccinated people aren’t protecting the unvaccinated, anyone can spread covid. As for those under 12 years old, who can’t get a vaccine. The flu is more dangerous for them than covid, so I don’t see any reason to hold out for them.

I mean, full disclosure I didn’t agree with many restrictions before we had vaccines… did you really think I would change my mind and support restrictions after vaccines? heck I don’t really even know what restrictions are in place. I think I’m just imagining things like lockdowns are imminent… open up the border with no more testing, no more quarantine, end the masks… that’s really all that’s left… and no more looking back, moving forward.

:supz: Alberta :supz: we love you berta! Show Canada the way!

Duh. That’s cause almost everyone In that area are fully vaxed. Of course then most infected are vaxed.

Of course a vaccine doesn’t protect you from infection, it’s completely about minimizing serious symptoms. As everyone with a brain fully knows. Not for one second, have I expected any different.

Is the reporting out there incredibly stupid, or is it this site? It’s a close race.

The vax narrative changes daily like socks. So, does the polio vaccine prevent polio or simply lessen the symptoms?
Science changes when the media needs it to, and about half of everyone believes it.
Your party was going to make you mask up and lock down no matter what. The vaxxed got vaxxed for nothing...they got suckered in with the summer travel and now they get beat with the same stick as the unvaxxed.

So... why is this so difficult? It shouldn't be. COVID is real. The harms it causes, up to and including death, are real. The vaccines we have are safe and effective.

No one wanted this. Or the restrictions, or any of the other impacts. But it's where we are. And, through a monumental undertaking, we have not just one, but several, safe and effective vaccines. Canada now has on hand enough of the best vaccines modern science has to offer for every single person in this country. So take the damned vaccine and let's all take a step to putting this behind us. It's not done yet, but vaccines are our best hope for some return to normalcy.

And as others have said - vaccines don't necessarily prevent infection - they prime your immune system to be able to mount an early and effective defense against this disease, and give you a real shot at minimizing negative health outcomes. For most variants, they also significantly lower the spread of the virus. While current data suggests this may, unfortunately, not be the case with the Delta variant, they still provide a high level of protection.

Wow pez you sound just like a politician.

Vaccines are safe and effective and available to all. But you need to wear a mask! If we all pull together we can do this! No one wanted the restrictions, but we know you are hermits… even though covid death is 10x less likely than a flu death when vaccinated, we got everyone so scared they will never want to remove their mask and they are all having a pissing match over vaccine passports. Great success!

How many more times will we hear, “highly effective, but still need restrictions”
