Vanguard Air Care
Looking at their new posting for Captains, I am interested to apply, however, I keep finding outdated information and would appreciate if someone working there can provide some information about the company.
Thank you!
Thank you!
Re: Vanguard Air Care
It's a typical medevac operator.
I believe they now have one base where you have shifts (Day and night shift), but other bases are still on call 24/7 and be good to go for 14 hours when we call.
Excellent maintenance though.
Information is 3 months old.

Re: Vanguard Air Care
“Critical care and child care” are the shifts you’re talking about. Two standby planes in winnipeg with 4 crews on overlapping shifts. Captains rotate forward 6 hours every two rotations. Northern bases yth yne yiv and ywg. Are 1 crew 1 plane and standby but we do have “autostart” so say you shut down at midnight, fresh at 9 and available for calls but duty day started at 11 regardless of call. Makes sure you can’t get a 12 hour flip and get on nights after a day of waiting around
Re: Vanguard Air Care
That's a huge improvement! Did that get implemented because of the new duty day regulations?C-GGGQ wrote: ↑Thu Feb 17, 2022 3:43 pm Are 1 crew 1 plane and standby but we do have “autostart” so say you shut down at midnight, fresh at 9 and available for calls but duty day started at 11 regardless of call. Or too many pilots calling fatigue?

Re: Vanguard Air Care
We had the autostarts prior to covid, then during covid we lost them. Now they’re back. The critical care is its own separate contract. We’ll eventually have to be goingnto the 5 on 5 off here by december vs the 7-7 we normally have due to the duty regs
Re: Vanguard Air Care
I will add this posting is mostly about expansion. Recently opened winnipeg “basic” vs critical base and added a plane. Also looking to have reserve crews finally. A couple of FO’s and captains are headed to 705, but its pretty stable here.
Re: Vanguard Air Care
That explains MNM. Those autostarts sure would be nice, instead of sitting around until the phone rings... I do not envy your chute times, though. (Are they still around?)
Re: Vanguard Air Care
Yup, also a minor adjustment to the autostarts I guess. Each base now has a start time. You can still be “fresh” earlier but you will start at the same time every day if no call during the Fresh.

Re: Vanguard Air Care
I don't understand this. You shut down (the engines?) at midnight, and you're on call again at 0900h? But your duty time doesn't start until 1100h? That doesn't make any sense, so clearly I'm misunderstanding. Or are you saying that the duty time started at 2100h, engines were shut down at 0000h, and the 14 hour duty period ended at 1100h, with the final 11 hours being reserve? So now you've got a 10 hour rest period before it starts all over again at 2100h?C-GGGQ wrote: ↑Thu Feb 17, 2022 3:43 pm Are 1 crew 1 plane and standby but we do have “autostart” so say you shut down at midnight, fresh at 9 and available for calls but duty day started at 11 regardless of call. That's a huge improvement. It used to be that you would be on call again at 0900, but your duty time wouldn't start until you got an actual call. Which could be at 2300, which would have switched you from dayshift to night shift.

Re: Vanguard Air Care
“Shutting down” at my company refers to when we get home or to the crew house, and is when we’re notified that our rest period is starting. I suspect it’s a similar deal with Vanguard.Conflicting Traffic wrote: ↑Mon Apr 25, 2022 1:54 pmI don't understand this. You shut down (the engines?) at midnight, and you're on call again at 0900h? And like digits already said, the autostart is great since it guarantees that you won’t get to sit at base for hours after your fresh time and end up getting stuck on some gross overnight shifts. Hopefully my company follows suit soon…
