New Saskatchewan Sked

Post by HO Driver »

I just heard that a new sked in Sask. is starting up in December with service from Regina to Stoney Rapids and points in between. I guess West Wind will be involved but it is not actually WWA running it. They are using a B1900C. Does anyone have any more info.? Does this mean WWA will be hiring?

WWA rarley has to go outside to hire. I would imagine they can find 1900 drivers inside, esp in the Regina base.

I guess sucking on the tit of cameco is not good enough for them.... They do not own any facilities in YSF & ZFD..... its going to take a lot of initial capital to get the facilities set up

Captain X, I reallt don't think WWA sucks on Cameco's tit so much as Cameco chooses to do business with WWA. I mean all you have to do is compare safety records between WWA and TWA and the decision is easy for Cameco. Safety is huge for big mining companies.

Competition is healthy!! We'll see how things make out this winter..... Safety; What problems have twa or ww had??.... I don't know of any violations that either company has had.... Twa does 95% of all the flights up north..... for cameco and cogema so they obviously aren't doing anything wrong.

don't quote me but isn't it national (based out of PA) who's starting this sked with R.C. as CP?

btw: the TW 99 accident was caused by a maintenance error and handled masterfully by the flight crew.

GPU_lover are you suggesting that maintenance or pilot error was the cause of the 99 accident?

From what I understand the issue was the misplacement of a bolt in the horizontal stab section of the aircraft. Apparently this has been the root of more than one accident involving the 99. It seems that this particular bolt and its replacement after an overhaul on the ass end of the aircraft is a real bitch to get in place correctly. Perhaps the engineers at TWA we're not aware of this at the time or believed they had done the job properly, but to point at one incident as an example of the company’s track record is stupid on your part.

If you are suggesting pilot error had something to do with the accident, then you have no clue about what happened. The two pilots flying the 99 that day performed their duties professionally, and when the accident happened their skill and training saved their lives and their passenger’s lives.

But, if you want to play your game I'll ask you to explain the accident that occurred with the Hawker a while back. You know the one where the senior flight staff was on board and the nose gear collapsed on landing!!

Sorry cheap shot, but TWA gets a bad rap a lot of times, and it doesn't deserve it. I see the day-in-day-out ops, and there are a lot of very good people doing the best they possibly can to operate safely.

Um thats because they are the only ones up in the north. Before Nda went under the mines preferred them!! thats says it all!

The Be99 thing was a superb example of two pilots that handled a situation that was totally unexpected and could never have been trained for.

There was just no way ANY form of training could have made that episode a "routine" emergency. They faced something none of us have ever seen before and in doing so, saved themselves and their passengers. So stop the BS about why and concentrate on just how much experience counts when it comes to flying an aircraft.

As to the Hawker thing - that too shows that a moments complacency can lead to something. There was no harm done except for hurt feelings and a bit of bent metal.

Those two guys had a sh*tlocker full of time and the respect of everyone that knew them.

If it happened to those two, it can just as easily happen to any one of us, 25,000 hours or not.

So lets just stop it right now!

NDA didn't have a dedicated mine contract did they? I was under the assumption that they did work, but not under a contract.

These feelings just don't involve anyone else.

WWA does have a draft on their OC for the 1900... might be something like Express Air.

I was not trying to put fault to anyone. Only stating a point to those that were saying TWA was without incident.

For you to ask me to explain an incident with a Hawker....is impossible for i do not no what you speak of?

I say again WWA...if the rumors are true of a new SCHED....FLY HIGH!!

Endless,

In order to fly for the mines you must be on contract, NDA was on contract. Each year the big wigs would come up around Sep. or so with a outside contracted source to fly around to all of our bases and check up on our opperations and then make recommendations on how to improve them. After that the mines would either give you another year on the contract or give to the other guy. when I was there we had lost the Cigar lake contract to TWA, but that only happened because Cameco/cogema was getting huge pressure from the bands up there to use TWA because they owned a couple of TWA a/c. Now there is no competition for them so they ge them all up north.
