Ukraine
Well, this Ukraine / Russia thing doesn’t look like it’ll be slowing down anytime soon.
What are the thoughts and expectations this will have on the aviation community here in Canada?
I can’t see this having a “positive” impact on the industry, so I’m just curious as to how badly this will stall any momentum the industry may have been seeing.

Re: Ukraine
Depends on the possibility of spillover.
The Russians could very well ban most Western airlines from their airspace; in addition to the possibility of many airlines making the decision to avoid Russian or Russian-backed nations airspace. Central/Eastern European airspace may also get sporty, even if the shooting stays localized in Ukraine...
The price of gas has shot up, so that's going to raise costs/ticket prices when airlines can least afford the added burden of expenses. And, if things get sketchy people may stop flying - people have already been talking about MH17 being shot down over Donetsk.
Sanctions are also a double edged sword in that they're going to have some negative effect on the nation that imposes them in addition to affecting the nation targeted.
All bets are off, though, if an increasingly isolated and potentially unstable Putin decides to lash out beyond Ukraine.

Fear fear fear.
Make sure you vote yes to a 10 percent pay cut next contract to secure that flying because of Covid/Ukraine/global warming.
Probably need some layoffs too.

Re: Ukraine
I'd guess the AN 124's aren't running, which will effect any freight from Eastern Europe. The one in YEG was there almost daily so the loss of heavy lift capability must be putting a strain on an already maxed out air freight sector.
Re: Ukraine
you guys can sit and speculate all you want or someone can point me in the right direction of an individual or organization willing to fly my organizations relief into at least Poland.
