RAIC Transfer

Post by PositiveRate27 »

I'm looking to transfer my employer and my RAIC from YVR-YYZ and there isn't any guidance for current RAIC holders on the pass control website. I was under the impression that I could simply transfer my RAIC over with the same expiry date. Do I need to do the Transportation Security Clearance again, or can I just schedule an appointment and walk out with the RAIC?

Thanks in advance!

I went through this recently. If you're changing airports you need to hand in your RAIC to the office that issued it and then re-apply at the new airport's security office. There is no simple "transfer" process but when you apply for your new RAIC make they will want to know if you had a RAIC issued prior. They'll be able to tell you what you have to "redo".

Yep, no transfer if you are changing employers. The RAIC is tied to the employer.

I believe the security clearance date is still good and you shouldn't have to do that again until the normal renewal time, but your new RAIC will not be valid beyond the security date. You do have to get a new RAIC though even if you change bases with the same company. Do yourself a favour and make an appointment for your new one the day after you arrive at your new base - and the day you no longer need the old one hand it in and obtain a receipt for it. Hand that receipt in to the new airport the day you arrive and they should be able to issue a new red one (not yellow) the same day.

That is correct. I showed up in YYC with my YUL pass and they told me I had to send it back to YUL have them cancel it before they could do anything for me, they did issue me a temporary "escort required" yellow pass though.
Once that was done, if you have your CASAP exams complete (National and YYZ one) then your clearance is still good. You will immediately get a red airside pass.
The pass will have the same expiry as your previous one.

When transferring from one base to another with the same company it is quite common for pilots and f/a's to keep using RAIC from old base until it's close to renewal time then renew at your new base

It's preferable to get a receipt, but without it, they should still be able to call transport Canada and have the clearance transferred to their airport (I've done this twice). It takes a few days and you do not need to fill out the long application form, just the airport's short form with signatures from your company.

to help speed up the process at your new base before you hand it in at the old base, write down or take photo of old base raic pass, both front n back the control # ie yvr xxx_002 the new pass office can usually just call the old pass office to confirm. have your 'ducks in order along with new employer verification and any specific local test results for operating in their secure areas . still goes fairly smooth talk nice n you may get it issued on the spot. for your appt time.
