Feds refuse to commit to drop restrictions.

Health minister declines to say when federal COVID restrictions will end
OTTAWA – As provinces across the country lift mask and vaccine mandates, Health Minister Jean-Yves Duclos refused to provide a date or a target for when the federal government would do the same.
Duclos appeared at the Commons health committee Monday and was asked repeatedly by Conservative MPs when mandates would be lifted. MP Michael Barrett asked Duclos why the federal government couldn’t lay out a plan for ending mandates when provinces have made that move.
Minister refused to answer.
“What different information does the federal government have that is causing it to not provide dates, or a plan that will see federal COVID mandates lifted?” Barrett asked.
(Minister refused to answer)
Provincial governments hold jurisdiction over most COVID rules, and they have mostly ended restrictions; lockdowns have been phased out and more recently vaccine or mask requirements have been eliminated or a date has been announced when that would take place.
The federal government has eased some travel testing restrictions, but still requires federal workers to be vaccinated and also requires vaccination to cross borders or fly domestically.
Barrett asked for a specific set of benchmarks based on either new cases or hospital capacity that could be used to outline when the federal government would end its restrictions. He said his constituents had done what was asked of them, but wanted to know when this would end.
“Canadians just want a plan,” he said. “All they’re asking for, every single day, is what is it going to take for us to see the mandates end.”
(Minister refused to answer)
Duclos said the government was reviewing policies weekly, but it was complicated and the government had to take a prudent and measured approach.
“To be responsible means that you need to follow the evidence, the science and the precautionary principle and adjust and analyze the policies as things evolve,” he said.
— So — nothing political re the truckers protests in these lack of responses?

Sounds a bit like they want to punish all of Canada because the support for the truckers was larger than expected.rookiepilot wrote: ↑Mon Mar 21, 2022 5:50 pm — So — nothing political re the truckers protests in these lack of responses?

Seems they aren’t even pretending to be accountable. Why hold press conferences?digits_ wrote: ↑Mon Mar 21, 2022 5:59 pmSounds a bit like they want to punish all of Canada because the support for the truckers was larger than expected.rookiepilot wrote: ↑Mon Mar 21, 2022 5:50 pm — So — nothing political re the truckers protests in these lack of responses?

It's all about control, it always has been.
Re: Feds refuse to commit to drop restrictions.
How low is the bar for "larger than expected" support? 3% of the population? 60K Canadian donors? The few thousand "trucks"? The religious zealot communes around Coutts/Milk River/Lethbridge?

8.7 million USD in donations. Probably 'larger than expected'kgb531 wrote: ↑Wed Mar 23, 2022 8:53 am How low is the bar for "larger than expected" support? 3% of the population? 60K Canadian donors? The few thousand "trucks"? The religious zealot communes around Coutts/Milk River/Lethbridge?

60% of which came from the US.
Donors vote. Not the individual dollars.

Re: Feds refuse to commit to drop restrictions.
You honestly think the government expected the protest to raise 8.7 million dollars?
Individual dollars don't vote, but they can sure influence a lot of voters.

Influence who? A Conservative voter to slip one notch to the PPC?
The middle of the roads (majority of the electorate) simply won't vote for anyone attached to or supported by the fringes. CPC doesn't need to attract a single extra vote from their further right side. They need votes and seats from possible small c, red shirt ridings.

You’re quite the political expert.kgb531 wrote: ↑Thu Mar 24, 2022 2:30 pm Influence who? A Conservative voter to slip one notch to the PPC?

Side hustle is with the young Liberals?
Re: Feds refuse to commit to drop restrictions.
If the goal is to form government, getting more seats is the only answer. The Bloc won't back a minority CPC government because it will undermine their own self-interest.
All right leaning seats/voters are already voting CPC and have no viable alternative unless of course another "purple wave" is on the way.
The Mulroney Progressives were the last "conservative" party to see a majority ov the popular vote. That won't happen again if the religious zealots and conspiracy nuts are placated in any way.

Turns out 96% were Canadian donations. Source is the treasury board president when he was asked questions about it in committee.
Re: Feds refuse to commit to drop restrictions.
I'll go with the analysis of the leaked data drop from givesendgo as the more accurate number. They processed the actual transactions.
