Nothing has been posted on hiring that I know of. The last bid shows outstanding positions and there will be some attrition with all the airlines in Canada hiring.

I don't know what the minimums are but everyone goes into the sim or used to anyways so I imagine it will continue. Attitude gets you an interview and being able to do basic things in an airplane will get you hired.

I was going to ask the same thing. AT is the only major airline in the whole country that hasn’t posted anything. Even in anticipation!
With AC, WS, Jzz, Porter sucking a lot of experienced guys up. The shortage is going to get worst!

so 5 minus the guys that just quit for other jobs plus the guys that just quit in general. I don't know how they don't feel the shortstaffness yet! With a busy summer schedule....yikes! More flight cancelations.

We heard they may have to start hiring at the end of the year. However I think the company has more resignations than anticipated. Captains recently resigned to go to AC and this is a wake up call for the company. There are lots of resignations but we don’t have an updated seniority list (maybe for a reason) so we don’t have the exact numbers.
The company is now paying an initial training on the A321 for about 80 pilots but some are about to resign…more money thrown to garbage…
Maybe the boomerang effect of laying off 100% of the crew staff during the pandemic?

5 going to AC that already have an offer? Plus dozens who will interview in the next few weeks...Are people leaving for swoop or flair on top of that?
Yikes..

One junior fo got hired at Flair but he’s coming back this summer…

As for DEC at Swoop, I don’t even know one name? Probably some juniors that commute from YYC or something

A few FO's went to Flair for both DEC and FO, but a few may be coming back as well. Regardless these numbers are single digits.

As far as hiring, even if the roster is down to 625 from 670 the fleet size has shrunk to 36 tails with negligible growth planned. Nothing concrete past 38 tails until 2025 and beyond - so this doesn't mean much in our unpredictable market.
This yields a pretty standard 17 crew per tail. Hiring might not be more than maintenance of 2.5% attrition, so 10-20 per year for the next 2 years. Upgrade times have likely correspondingly increased as well. Of course this is just my guess and all speculation, I have no idea what's going on inside. I hope there is more positive growth on the horizon.

Does TS ever hire DEC or are they typically able to upgrade from within?

There will not be any DEC for a while. It's been done a long time ago in the earlier days of the company. There is still a good amount of qualified upgrades.

They posted yesterday.

So what’s the usual training path for new hires. I can’t seem to find anything in that regards?

Company indoc, sim, training, line-indoc, seniority, type selection etc?

With the new 321NEOs, do you get first typed on one aircraft then get a 330 difference course months later? How does it work nowadays?

You get typed on the aircraft awarded as per operational needs. Then if you transfer to other Airbus, you get a CCQ training (4 sims + PPC).

All training is done online from home except for a couple class days for performance course I think. Then APT and then Simulator.

Can anyone comment to the experience level in the 2020 GS? Has the list changed much since everyone has been recalled?

Experience ranged from 2500-10,000 hrs on various aircraft. The list hasn’t changed much since 2020, exception being retirees or people who jumped to other operators.

Hope this helps.

An official policy? No, and it's currently a point of contention. There are a lot of commuters on the roster, and we're trying to push for improvements, which in conjunction would benefit the company in terms of retention.
That being said, it's an easier airline than some others to commute with. Depending on where you live, you'll be using reciprocal JS and myIDTravel as we don't have much in the way of scheduled domestic routes, but this is changing and growing by the month with the paradigm shift. The block schedule is good, there are some provisions to cancel and swap DH's to different destinations (aka your home) and a few other little helping hands, but they don't always work as well in practice, and desperately need more pilot-friendly flexibility.
Schedule-wise, you can pack a few long pairings together so you only have to make your trip a few times a month. This isn't compatible with reserve however.
So, it works, but it sucks. An official policy and program would be life-changing for the roster and the recruiting dept would then have the easiest job in the company!
If you're not a commuter, TS is a fantastic place to work.

We are allowed to cancel hotel rooms, DH flights and bank them(30% of value only) so we can use them at a later time. For example, if you have a DH from YYZ to YVR but live in YUL, you can ask them to replace the DH with YUL YVR. You can ask for hotel rooms in YYZ using your commuter bank instead of paying with your own money. I’ve been changing DHs several times pre pandemic and this month and it works flawlessly actually. So yes there is room for improvement (as always) but it’s still pretty good when you combine this with bidding long pairings outside of base (so lots of per diems + accommodation paid for by the company).

For example, as a 2018 YYZ hire commuting, I’ve had to spend one night in YYZ only this month.

Just too clear a few things up about the commuting policy at TS.

It is an official policy and it is included in the Policy Manual. It is not in the Collective Agreement.
The credit for cancellations of flights and hotels is 35%.

What does that mean 35% of value? You would be responsible to pay for the other 65% of the cost of whatever flight they change you to? And does it have to be a transat flight or would they book you on AC or WJ if that’s all that serves where you live?
