Brutal news.
I worked with him in Sioux Lookout/Cat Lake and he helped me get my next job after Lockhart - he was a top-notch guy, really fun to be around.

Nasty!

Post by Wally3Wheels »

Had the opportunity to fly with Gord for a short time throughout NW Ontario. Gouchy was a great handle. Always a straight shooter and wasn't afraid to set you in your place if you were out of line! Helped me out and taught me some quick lessons! Dug me out once when I got a plane stuck on the runway at Savant Lake! :(

He'll be missed.

Best Regards to his family!

I had met Gord on the ramp at ZRJ in the summer of 2001, and shared many laughs with him(mostly him laughing at me and my dearest OCD) while he was doing his turn'rounds. the fondest memory I have was during the 9-11 debacle. his flight happened to be coming into round when the orders came for grounding. he and his captain had to spend a couple of days there, and we(the gang from ZRJ including Rod, Leah and of course Chach) were more than happy to have some "normal" people in our mix. I have a picture that i took of everyone sitting at the table getting ready to chow down on the breakfast that Leah and I had brewed. The strange thing is, I looked at that very picture just last week and wondered what he was up to....

Gord was first class, to me anyways, we shared a some good whisky and even better laughs that night despite everyone feeling down about the whole 9-11 thing.

Gord was instrumental in setting up an interview for me with the bear. He just kept bugging the hell out everyone in YXL, saying I should be given an interview this and that. It worked, but I somehow fucked it up and was passed over. I reckon they did me a favour with the changes at the bear, I wouldn't have been there too long anyway.

Gord, thanks again, for everything.
I had the pleasure of meeting your family once briefly and my condolences go out to them and all who new you. rest in peace my friend. We'll drink and bullshit again.......

moderators reading this, any objections to me posting a pic of our friend here?

I'm drinking a tequila to his memory now.
We used to mountain bike in the mud in the woods on days off. He always seemed to be in great shape, he used to ride circles around me.
He had alot of great, blunt insight into our business and life in general. He put up with alot of shit from all the young punks like me that were up there at the time.
I really respected him. He was a good man.

My heart breaks for Kana as well, my deepest condolences go out to her as well.

Cheers Gord, I'm sure all my fellow Lockhart alumni would join me in a toast to your well-lived life.

Didn't know grouchy, but I read him many times here and as such, he is part of my online community- just like you folks.

I mourn the passing of any pilot, and I especially mourn those who are part of my virtual life.

My condolences.

I first got to know Gord when he was up in Kasabonika and all the other fun places up there. He always something to make me smile. Of course he was getting pretty "bushed" by then. :)
Had a couple of good nights with him and his wife at the Winston in YPL and we eventually figured each other out by our screen names when he was just getting started at the Bear. Always the same guy no matter what, and we've managed to drop the odd PM over the several years since we both moved on.
I'll truly miss knowing that he's lurking about the boards waiting to chip in.

My deepest sympathies to his family.

I met Gord this spring as he was a float pilot for our company and I was responsible for the paperwork training... I remember commenting on how I wanted to get home quick and get in my 3 hours of cycling training while there was still light... from then on we were friends as Gord had a passion for cycling as well... we talked about all the Euro pros, races we had done, crashes we were in, and how Lance is a geneticly altered freak. I just went back through my emails and we were predicting the final placings in the Tour de France. He had them down pretty close!

As a fellow pilot and cycling enthusiast RIP my friend.

When I turn on the computer after work this is the worst that I could find out had happened... Gord was such a great guy to me in YXL on those bad weather days hanging out in the back stealing a smoke waiting for the weather to get better... Such a good listener, and colleague... My heart goes out to his family, especially Kana with the fondest memories of sushi and great times in YXL...
My Condolences...

My condolence go out to his beautiful wife. It is such a sad way to have lost him. I meet Gord in YXL as he lived down the hall from me. I remember how excitied he was to have gotten hired by the Bear. He was always willing to help out a fellow pilot no matter were he was in his career. He will be missed.

My heartfelt condolences to Kana and Gords family....I knew him well at the Bear and before. We used to share a coffee in his cabin in Kas or mine in Webequie when we were on floats and would happen to cross paths.

Later at the Bear, I always got a kick out of running into Gord and catching up...

Sad day.

A Good Friend

Gord was a good friend. He had a great sense of humor and a unique outlook on life. The tragic event that lead to his dead is disheartening. My thoughts go out to Kana and his family.

Please tell thank you who put thought about my husband, Gordon Sanderson in your forum. It was really nice to hear so much nice things about him from so many people. I am overwhelmed that my husband had so many good friends and so much supports from them. I can't find the word to say how greatful I am.
Thank you again.
