Sunwing union opposes Canadian carrier's plans to hire foreign pilots
These imports will be paid more than Canadian Pilots. Quote from Barret Armann, president of the union.: "It's a punch in the face," adding that Labor Minister Seamus O'Regan "needs to step in and stop this." unquote. In reply the Ministers statement on the Matter quote from his department: "A spokeswoman for O'Regan said it was up to an employer to meet requirements to bring in temporary foreign workers." Unquote. https://www.reuters.com/business/aerosp ... 022-09-25/

Realistically the union shouldn’t be involved as this shouldn’t even be an option for sunwing. There’s plenty of licenses in Canada shelved because of poor pay and work conditionsJiffy wrote: ↑Sun Sep 25, 2022 9:48 pm These imports will be paid more than Canadian Pilots. So you're suggesting that the union shouldn't have brought this to everybody's attention? I say good on them for fighting this!Bug_Stomper_01 wrote: ↑Mon Sep 26, 2022 6:25 amRealistically the union shouldn’t be involved as this shouldn’t even be an option for sunwing. No you misunderstand, they absolutely should but the airline shouldn’t have an option to hire outside Canadas workforce in this way to circumvent a problem airlines themselves causedsafetyfirst123 wrote: ↑Mon Sep 26, 2022 11:02 amSo you're suggesting that the union shouldn't have brought this to everybody's attention? Absolutely. Unfortunately if left unchecked and unchallenged, these things get rubber-stamped by some bureaucrat with no understanding of the situation. The company posts a job ad looking for Direct Entry Captains, and they somehow couldn't find any. Then they run an upgrade bid internally, and the vast majority of applicants (of which the vast majority meet the requirements), are somehow unsuitable. It's no wonder the morale at Sunwing is at such a low these days, and the attrition lately from both senior trainers and new-hires in training should raise alarm bells with management.Bug_Stomper_01 wrote: ↑Mon Sep 26, 2022 12:01 pmNo you misunderstand, they absolutely should but the airline shouldn’t have an option to hire outside Canadas workforce in this way to circumvent a problem airlines themselves causedsafetyfirst123 wrote: ↑Mon Sep 26, 2022 11:02 amSo you're suggesting that the union shouldn't have brought this to everybody's attention? Re: Sunwing union opposes Canadian carrier's plans to hire foreign pilots
It’s industry wide we’re even seeing this crap in helicopters with not only pilots but AME’s ffs. There is no lack of either, there’s a lack of the conglomerate that are willing to work for scraps for on call slavery. The imports that are approved are largely here to get experience and bounce or are from somewhere so horrible that working for 1/3 the appropriate rate is better than their alternative. I am certainly not a xenophobe, but the way this is being exploited by operators does no favours for the stereotypes and creates more of a parasitic relationship between employers and employeessafetyfirst123 wrote: ↑Mon Sep 26, 2022 4:39 pmAbsolutely. Re: Sunwing union opposes Canadian carrier's plans to hire foreign pilots
This sounds like the same old Sunwing song and dance where they are abusing the Temporary Foreign Workers Act because they can't find "qualified" pilots i.e. guys that they don't have to pay a 737 type rating for? Pathetic. The fact that they are offering 75% above hard fought pay agreements is simply a slap in the face to all flight crews there.
Sunwing has always been and always will be a rat discount bottom feeder vacation operator/bus service for drunk idiots who can't afford anything but 2 star vacation packages for 3 days somewhere crappy. I say don't even bother.
The worst part is that the ex Canada AM host and his moron failed out part time drama teacher boss don't have the balls or leadership skills to deal with this or any other issue worth protecting Canadians or their jobs.
