AC DEC COURSE

Just a quick question..

Who would be stupid enough to tell any of you they had friends and or relatives at AC???

My 550 class did not have one legacy in it. The class before me didn't, the class after me didn't. PULLLEESSE!

I'll give you $10$ if you post a full page ad picture of yourself in the toronto Sun that has "loser" written on it.

Exactly, no one would tell you. You'd get the old man in trouble and yourself. His peers would think "oh, he got his boy in, but mine didn't get in" and you'd be labelled a bad pilot and only got in because of the old man...

The other percentage that knew people that got them in, just want to feel good and like to tell themselves, "I got in because of me, it's all me..."

Many I've flown with have revealed that Dad worked for the company. I think it's great to follow in the old man's steps. Good for them. If you count all the sons and daughters who got in because of mom or dad, there would still be lots of room for well qualified people. Contrary to false info on this forum, they make up what is merely a drop in the bucket. Miserable and sarcarstic types need not apply. You wouldn't get past the initial interview. Show some class and professionalism and you might stand a chance. Sounds like maybe you've already been POF'ed. 737 forever, eh?

O.k..... this thread has sure taken a turn off course. It is titled AC DEC course after all, isn't it?

So, I'll try to get it back on track.

I know of a few people who received a phone call for the Dec 12th course.

Just in case anyone cares.

And one last thing...let's drop the nepotism thing already.

IN FACT, WE HAVE NOT INTERVIEWED OVER THE LAST MONTH, WHILE CAPTAIN DAVE LEGGE ESTABLISHES A NEW SELECTION PROCESS, ONE THAT WILL INCORPORATE ADDITIONAL TESTING.

So for those pilots that just got on - talk about sneaking through the cracks.

So is this testing going to be the same stuff that was on the hiring website before they lowered the experience minimums to 1000 hours? i.e., a short technical exam? I'm assuming that a sim eval will be re-introduced. What type might that be on? Me and some fellows from work think it will likely be on either an RJ or 767, because they are not FBW. Anyway, continue with the rumors, we feed off of them!

Sim evals, traditionally were done in simulators that were not being used that much. Ie: the 727 sim 747 classic and DC9. Since all those are gone now, I am not sure what they will use. All the others are going 24/7.

With the RJ going to jazz, maybe that will be the sim but I would imagine the sim would go too.

Don't forget Vancouver still has a 737 sim sitting idle. It's used by First Air occasionally. Also, an older no motion 737 trainer FBT sits in the corner collecting dust.

Yes, the people I know that have got the call for the Dec course have either a aviation diploma or a degree

Received the call last week for Dec 12 course. For those who are wondering interviewed mid Sept, 3900 hours with half of that corporate jet and half of that jet PIC, aviation diploma, NO relatives of AC and one recommendation from a junior AC pilot who also has no relatives with AC.

I was called yesterday to schedule a session for me to write the new exams. I should be writing them on the 28th of Nov.

Just a side note - I do not fly for Air Canada or for any airline for that matter.

I know that nearly all hiring for municipal, provincial, and federal government is done through recomendations and internal references as is the hiring for a million other banks, marketing firms, government agencies and private sector corporations. Recomendations are used at construction firms, landscaping jobs, and even fast food restaurants.

So lets be honest here - for all of you who are screaming NEPOTISM - lets say you are in charge of hiring for a multi-billion dollar company. When some of your top management comes to you with recomendations of new hires, why in hells name would you not at least give them an interview. Captains at Air Canada I would assume have got to that position trough professionalism and through doing a great job. If I were in the position to hire, I would most definately take any and all recomendations from them regarding hiring, family or not. Thats business - not nepotism. If management at any company receives a hiring reference from an employee in good standing, its a no brainer - family, not family, who cares, it just makes good business sense.

Thats the way the world works, not the way Air Canada works. And more often than not, it works really well.

Good post, as in most industries it may not be what you know, it is who you know to get your foot in the door, then it is up to you.
