Auto Fuel Selector Automatically selected Fuel Off

Post by pelmet »

I did get to fly a TBM700 once on a delivery flight with a Ferry pilot from Tarbes to the US. I got to fly one leg. 290 knots at FL290 was very cool. i remember the auto-fuel selector going back and forth every once in a while between right and left tank. Not sure what other types have it but it was interesting. But......

C-GNDR, a privately operated Socata TBM-700, was on a flight rules flight at the
instruments from St-Georges, QC (CYSG) airport to Duluth airport,
MN (KDLH) with a pilot and 2 passengers on board. About 15 minutes after takeoff, so
the aircraft was at flight level (FL) 200, the pilot received a warning message
FUEL OFF followed, a few seconds later, by engine shutdown. The pilot operated the
Quick Reference Manual (QRH) Checklist Memory Items for Failure
engine and noticed that the fuel selector was indicating closed (OFF). The driver restarted the
engine successfully after selecting manual fuel mode. a few more minutes
later, the selector was returned to automatic mode (AUTO). About 2 minutes later, the
engine turned off again with the selector indicating OFF again. The pilot has
restarted the engine and left the selector in manual mode. A return to CYSG has been made.
The aircraft landed safely with the engine working.
