How about an oddly named town in northern Quebec? So how do you make a short poignant position report when you pass abeam; YLU ???

on a yvr-yyz flight, i had a route that included(in this order) IWAK DIKK (actually i can't remember the exact spelling of dikk)

A controller told me once that all of those intersection names come from Mexico. They don't speak very good english and just put together whatever they want.

That's because everything in Civil Aviation has been divided up between countries (to be equal / fair) and Mexico just happened to get that responsibility.

May shed some light, may not.


And by the way, good thread, cause some of these waypoints are way too funny!

BETH and JUDY on the approach into Prince Rupert were ladies who worked for Transport up there some time ago. Apparently the fixes will soon be changed to the ICAO standard 5 letter name.
