Canadian minimum livable wage vs pilot salaries

Post by McKinley »

I figured I’d get a conversation going on this topic …

When researching the topic, it was also hard to find something concrete about the minimum livable yearly salary in Canada that wasn’t based on old data, loaded with gobbledygook etc. ( a separate Issue in itself )

What I did find, was that there’s a strong correlation between financial stress, poverty and worsening mental / physical health. Many of these mental health impacts are quite serious …

Given that, one can easily argue having a proper salary that reflects cost of living is a safety/ performance/ health issue.. This is really interesting given the emphasis Transport Canada puts on pilot safety/ mental health. ( SSRI’s we’re recently approved for pilots)

Why haven’t unions made this argument? Why don’t companies /passengers realize this?

I won’t get into the government / inflation / COVID mess .. that’s a whole other load of trash.
