So if you want to sample, the variety of seats available at your base, how long are you committed to a type?

Hasn't been my experience.jpilot77 wrote: ↑Wed Apr 12, 2023 8:33 pmWell actually with the new reserve RAPs senior guys on reserve don’t have cart blanche to get all the good flying. So now it’s a mix for everyone on reserve.Ash Ketchum wrote: ↑Wed Apr 12, 2023 7:47 pmYeah definitely need decent seniority to do those trips, otherwise it will be YQB turns on reserve.Bingo Fuel wrote: ↑Wed Apr 12, 2023 1:04 pm
Rouge A319 (even though a big chunk of that fleet is A321). Some nice layovers at resorts if you have the seniority to hold it. Havana, Mexico City, St Lucia, Grenada, Costa Rica, Panama, etc

If you want to work at AC you should really review the ACPA CBA. It is convoluted but it will dictate your QOL for the rest of your career.

Specifically the following sections:
Article 20.05 Course Rights
Article 20.17 New Hire Pilots
The new hire freeze referenced in this article is currently only a few years, but COVID has made that timing a little unpredictable going forward. As per the contract, it can be as long as four years.

Yes I have went through it a bit, convoluted is a good word! Sometimes its better asking here! good CRM...rudder wrote: ↑Thu Apr 13, 2023 5:01 amCourse rights.kilocharliemike wrote: ↑Thu Apr 13, 2023 4:10 am So if you want to sample, the variety of seats available at your base, how long are you committed to a type?

Re: Aircraft QoL
Readers Digest version - you get 6 course rights when you start (WB CA/WB FO/ NB CA/NB FO/ RP/ 1 free). Your initial position assignment counts as one CR used. You get an additional CR after 15 years. If you get displaced, you get the associated CR right back.kilocharliemike wrote: ↑Thu Apr 13, 2023 8:02 amYes I have went through it a bit, convoluted is a good word! As mentioned, new hire freezes appear to be somewhat in flux. Released pilot seniority number (above which are no longer subject to new-hire freeze) is provided with each equipment bid.

Re: Aircraft QoL
Doesnt look good for Western folks. How long does it take generally to hold a YVR base?
Re: Aircraft QoL
37 and possibly 320 you could hold it in the next bid after training. Otherwise it’ll be a while. There’s a new hire course right you can use to get you to a different base on a different type if you didn’t get your preferred base/type in PIT.Loading... wrote: ↑Fri Apr 14, 2023 6:01 amDoesnt look good for Western folks. Not to drift the thread too much but how many WB CA positions are there at AC with the current 87 WB tails?

Re: Aircraft QoL
I finished my line check end of December. YVR based by January 1 - A320. Currently there are new hire spots open in YVR on the 320, 737 and 787RP. They may not be offered in every pit course but one could potentially get based in YVR fairly quickly on the 320 or 737.Loading... wrote: ↑Fri Apr 14, 2023 6:01 amDoesnt look good for Western folks. Re: Aircraft QoL
As someone who has flown both extensively the first poster is bang on. The Airbus will tell you what’s wrong, the 737 makes you figure it out for yourself.Vanguard wrote: ↑Wed Apr 12, 2023 11:56 amThat’s the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard. Re: Aircraft QoL
Many many years ago, when I flew the 737-200, we used to analyze, assess and confirm what electrical failure we had by which fuel and/or hydraulic pumps were powered.
Imagine my delight moving to the A320. Not only does the ECAM tell you what’s wrong, a systems diagram displayed it, then it generates a checklist and finalizes it with a Status report even telling you a runway use calculation factor. I thought I was flying a spaceship it was so advanced.
I’m amazed, those flying Boeing’s latest 737 are still counting fuel pumps.

Vanguard what are you so angry about?? So many of your posts you sit there and sling mud at people. Seriously what is so wrong in your life that you hide behind an internet username and unload your misery. It's sad, for you.Vanguard wrote: ↑Wed Apr 12, 2023 11:56 amThat’s the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard. Clearly you are an airbus pilot and don’t know what you’re talking about. Enough said.
Re: Aircraft QoL
AC has just gone downhill so far from when they flew the Vanguard… I’m sure it had a way better ECAM than the 320!rooster wrote: ↑Sun Apr 16, 2023 11:31 amVanguard what are you so angry about?? I only sling mud at people who deserve it and I call people out who don’t know what they’re talking about clearly.
