Calm Air Pay
Heard they ratified a new contract. Any word on what they are paying now?
Re: Calm Air Pay
“Additional changes to work conditions and compensation reaffirm that Calm Air is a career destination,”
https://www.alpa.org/news-and-events/ne ... -agreement
Calm Air is ALPA.
What does ALPA think the career destination work conditions and compensation should be for an Artic flying ATR?
Will it exceed inflation of the past years, and account for future inflation?

"thanks to the positive working relationship between the pilot group and Calm Air management"
Can anyone confirm that the Calm Air management and pilots get along well?

They did for a long time, I doubt that has changed much.

They sound like they have a great contract to begin with. Their relationship between labour and management is something to strive for.
Pay increase Ive heard is similar to Delta increases (30% over 5 years).

Calm air is a great company. I’m sure their new contract will hold current experienced crew and attract new faces that want some of the best aviation in the world.
Re: Calm Air Pay
Best aviation in the world? They seem pretty good as far as Northern flying goes, but you're still overnighting in some questionable 'hotels'.CaptDukeNukem wrote: ↑Wed Apr 19, 2023 6:45 am Calm air is a great company. As an AvCanada discussion grows longer:
-the probability of 'entitlement' being mentioned, approaches 1
-one will be accused of using bad airmanship

I totally forgot to write the word “experience” after “best aviation” in my previous post lol. My apologies.digits_ wrote: ↑Wed Apr 19, 2023 7:08 amBest aviation in the world? Calm air has built their own crew housing in many overnight communities while still paying per diems. And they’re above grade (relative to northern hotel). Is it the ritz Carlton with a 24 hr outdoor hot tub? No

30% is low.
Is that all ALPA can do for its million in union dues collected since the last contract? Average $2000 per pilot, each year since 2018
"A job listing for a first officer at Calm Air has a salary range of $34,014 to $82,603 while the Perimeter Aviation collective agreement lists the base salary for a first officer with four to five years of experience as just over $35,700. A captain can make as little as $36,108 as their base salary."
https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/manitoba ... -1.6756270
30% of $34,000 is only a $10,000 raise.
So Calm Air will pay FO $44,000 for an ATR in the Arctic - worse than Pacific Costal & Jazz
Flying old aircraft in the arctic should be paying more
If ALPA could only get Calm Air 30% that's horrible.
Over 5 years - even worse.
Does ALPA know that inflation goes up in the next 5 years, could be 20% or more inflation by 2028.
So $44,000 in 2028 will be back to $34,000.
Company won.

WTF are you going on about. Their 2013-2018 contract shows year 1 captains at 82.39 a credit with 80 MMG. That’s $80000 year one captain, voted in 8 years ago.CanadaAir wrote: ↑Wed Apr 19, 2023 7:37 ambraaap Braap wrote: ↑Tue Apr 18, 2023 6:58 pm They sound like they have a great contract to begin with. FO starting wage at 45$ a credit, so yea that’s $43000. Talk to encore pilots and see what they get paid. It’s arguably not much more.
Again; this is 2013 numbers and Year 1 numbers.
If you look at pilot salaries on google and Glassdoor and CBC then you need to finish your private pilots license and keep up with the times son. Don’t forget that night X-COUNTRY PIC. Do us all a favor and rejoin avCanada with a different username

Re: Calm Air Pay
The silence and lack of details around what was voted on is not reassuring.
Huge opportunity missed for the pilot industry.
I just picture Manager John Schneider looking at the lineup in the dugout.
Flair. Porter. Sunwing. Calm Air. Keewatin. Pasco. AirSprint. All walked up and batted. Hit singles and fielder choices. Trying to do their ‘part’.
Who’s gonna hit something meaningful and cash the industry in? I think we’re still climaxing but timing and leverage will eventually run out.
Hopefully WJ and AC can get some meaningful gains.

Calm air posted the wage of $34,000.
It was previously posted in the negotiation forum.
CBC wouldn't post salaries without credible information.
"A job listing for a first officer at Calm Air has a salary range of $34,014 to $82,603 while the Perimeter Aviation collective agreement lists the base salary for a first officer with four to five years of experience as just over $35,700. The CBC contacted EIC and ALPA and neither group had an issue with what CBC quoted on the salaries.
Re: Calm Air Pay
Their starting pay for FO is 51.99 per hour at 80mmg. 50k. This was pre new contract. I was told from someone working there that nee contract increased by (they did not say how much) increased per diem among other things. That article is just blatantly wrong.

Go on negotech.gc.ca. All CBAs are Public domain. Don’t read CBC
Re: Calm Air Pay
Any idea how long before the new one usually goes up on there?
Re: Calm Air Pay
The article is not wrong.
Instead of blaming the CBC, why not ask ALPA & the management why Calm has been posting job ads starting at $34,000.
Even if the wage was $50,000, a 30% over 5 years is small. Paying less than Pacific Coastal & flying ATR72 with 4 times the passengers of a B1900.
With the high inflation of the past years and upcoming years.
Why would ALPA national allow such a low bar
Undermines the WestJet negotiations.

Advise if the screen shot still doesn't show.
It's a copy of a Indeed ad posted by Calm Air multiple times this year for First Officers willing to accept wages starting at $34,000 a year.

It shows now.
This site is third party, and doesn’t reflect current wages. It uses google searches to generate a range of salaries based on old data. I’m surprised calm air would copy paste this and share on social media. But it seems you are right, however I am also right saying the wage numbers shown there are incorrect.
Pretty sure the FAs are pushing more than $34000 a year

The goal is higher wages for everyone.
The FAs are all working together across companies for higher wages.
Its beneficial if the pilots support the FAs and pilots support other pilots.

Pasco starts fo’s at 41.03 and calm started them at 51.99 on the old contract.

Re: Calm Air Pay
Pacific Coastal is advertising minimum of $50,000 per year or $52.08/Credit hour, for a B1900 with 19 seats in southern mostly controlled Canada.
Calm Air is flying ATR72 with 4 times the seats and huge cargo & fuel loads that pilots have to help offload in the freezing uncontrolled arctic.
Pacific Coastal is paying higher than Calm Air, based on what Pacific Coastal and Calm Air company hiring have posted online.
Re: Calm Air Pay
It's not incorrect. As the company itself has let this information posted under their job advertisements.CaptDukeNukem wrote: ↑Wed Apr 19, 2023 9:43 amYou’re right. Working together is good.CanadaAir wrote: ↑Wed Apr 19, 2023 9:38 amCaptDukeNukem wrote: ↑Wed Apr 19, 2023 9:10 am

The company or the union should be the one correcting the info if its wrong. Which they didn't do when CBC contacted them.
This indicates the Calm Air was ok with the $34,000 starting salary, which may have been a negotiating tactic.
The CBC also posted the link to the perimeter contract on the article, this is where the CBC took the salaries from.
Its up to the company and ALPA to post correct information, or to request that incorrect information be corrected.
If a company can't get its job ads posted straight it shows disorganized management.
