After a lot of hard work, I should have all the flight hours required for the ATPL somewhere next week (in all categories). Both written exams have been done, last multi-IFR ride is less than a year. Soon it will be time to claim my change of letters (CA to AA) to TC.
Now I've been told that some offices are faster than others. I've heard rumors saying that it could take from a single day (cyow) up to 2 months (cyul) to process it and sign the upgrade. Can anybody confim/infirm those rumors? Any suggestions regarding this? I'm willing to wait a week, but not a month. I already missed one interview because I did not had the paper (though I did mention in my resume I still needed a few hours)...
YYZ took 10 days from time I gave them the paperwork to when I got the license in the mail and they sent it to Newfoundland. Than was in Jan. Congrats on the AA.
You're right, YOW is usually in the order of a day or two. However we're getting into X-mas season, so many TC personnel go on vacation. In that case, you would be waiting longer. Ask for Carole.
Did mine at YHZ....... took about 20 minutes while I waited, but then again that's good ol' maritime hospitality for you.
If given a choice, assuming that you're in Ontario I would go to Hamilton. I've only ever had a couple of dealings with 4900 Yonge St and it only ever resulted in being rudely dealth with by surly clerks and STILL having to wait for weeks to get whatever paperwork you needed. Hamilton on the other hand was always great (I worked for a while as an Instructor in Ontario).
By the way, congrats on the ATPL. Those exams are quite the kick in the butt aren't they?
Thanks for all your answers, I think YOW will be my choice (I'm in YUL). Just heard from a friend that did it in YUL that it could take a very long time as they scrutinized your logbooks for weeks (and check all the stamps). He told me that in order to get a basic PPL (he's a CFI), it takes between 4 and 6 weeks to process it (at YUL). So imagine an ATPL...
By the way, the ATP exams aren't that bad if you study it properly. I still maintain that the INRAT is the worst, but I don't want to start an other thread here...
Remember that when you drop off your log book and paperwork with tc they sign the back of your lic and endorse it for the atpl. The license is now valid for 90 days until the real deal shows up in the mail (provided you dotted all your I's and crossed all your T's and all the planets line up just right...)
These days, I would stay as far away from 4900 Yonge St as you possibly can.
Since I was taught that if you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all, I will not say anything at all about 4900 Yonge St, except perhaps to factually mention that Transport does not have a cost-of-living compensation factor. Think about the consequences of that.
Has anyone gone into TC thinking they'd they had all the ATPL requirements, but got shut down for some stupid reason like they were missing 1 hour or something? Please share stories.
