Zone 5 for boarding on POS DH
Anyone else thinks this should be also a priority on any new contract ?
You show up for work and you're zone 5 lol.. no place to put in your work bag to go to work ! What the deuce ! How insulting is this... it s one thing to ask for an upgrade, but the zoning thing.. i mean come on, it s not like we are on vacation, not even gonna mention C4 when travelling.

Just line up at the end of zone 2. If gate agent makes a big deal, line up in your zone. If not, say thank you

The question was : do you think it should be included in the bargaining ?canadian_aviator_4 wrote: ↑Mon May 22, 2023 2:56 pm Just line up at the end of zone 2. If gate agent makes a big deal, line up in your zone. If not, say thank you![]()

Yes absolutly this is an issue and it should, and I hear it is, on the table if bargaining ever starts again.
The issue is not just low zone number. But we should really get business class travel for deadheads. In addition our standby seniority will hopefully improve. Business standby passes would be nice as well.

If you have to check your bag in at the gate and go to carousel and force a delay on your departure, then so be it. If they board me last and my bag doesn’t fit, then guess what, I’m not running. Why is a zone number important?Flyerone wrote: ↑Mon May 22, 2023 2:44 pm Anyone else thinks this should be also a priority on any new contract ?

Should ALWAYS be zone 3 for employees DH or C4. To he'll with the whiney super elites, they'll still fly regardless of staff boarding zone 3.
Re: Zone 5 for boarding on POS DH
Not even all AC pilots get business deadheads so a non company pilot deadheading in business would just be a waste of negotiating capital. Same goes with business upgrade passes, we're most likely about to lose those as well.Loading... wrote: ↑Mon May 22, 2023 3:45 pm Yes absolutly this is an issue and it should, and I hear it is, on the table if bargaining ever starts again.

Re: Zone 5 for boarding on POS DH
Not at Jazz anymore but whenever I DHed I just went up at the beginning of zone 3, never had a problem. And I deadheaded a lot.
If you ask me this is something that the company should just provide in order to make sure there is space for DHing crew's bags. I can't believe this is something that anyone would waste bargaining power on.

As long as RPs at AC don't get biz, Jazz pilots won't either.Loading... wrote: ↑Mon May 22, 2023 3:45 pm Yes absolutly this is an issue and it should, and I hear it is, on the table if bargaining ever starts again.

This his how it always was. It's since the COVID stupid zone by Window Middle Aisle came out that they board DH by zone #.f70d40 wrote: ↑Mon May 22, 2023 5:40 pm Not at Jazz anymore but whenever I DHed I just went up at the beginning of zone 3, never had a problem. And I deadheaded a lot.

Re: Zone 5 for boarding on POS DH
Just be polite and courteous. I always board towards the end of Zone 2 or prior to Zone 3. I have never had any issues and most level headed CSA's know why and take no issue with it. Hell I have even had a CSA board me before Zone 1. As previously stated if you happen to get booted out of line then board with your zone and if there is no space for you bag, I guess it gets checked and your next operating flight will be delayed. Unless of course there is a 3 hour sit at the arriving end

Re: Zone 5 for boarding on POS DH
I’ve personally never had to wait to board in zone 4 or 5 or check my bags. Just be polite and most of the gate agents will reciprocate. I do agree it’s sad how they treat deadheading crew with the lack of upgrades etc.
DEI = Didn’t Earn It
Re: Zone 5 for boarding on POS DH
Oh I know, I'm talking about after they started doing that. Just take your zone 5 boarding pass and go up there right when they call zone 3. I did it all the time with no issue, even when I was not in uniform, but used my RAIC as ID.
Re: Zone 5 for boarding on POS DH
I usually go 1 zone early and never have an issue

At AC, the CA and FO are guaranteed J. The RP will get if if there are J seats available after all other revenue upgrades have been done.
At Jazz , while deadheading, pilots and FAs hired before the early 2010s (I think it’s some random date in 2015?) are eligible for an upgrade if there are seats available after all the eligible revenue pax have been upgraded. No Jazz DH crew member has ever been contractually guaranteed a J seat.
AAAANNNNDDD, DH pilots hired after this random date in 2015 are NEVER eligible for an upgrade. Even if the J cabin is completely empty! And these same Jazz pilots often have to work a four leg day after they have just deadheaded in the middle seat in the back of the bus while J has empty seats! How’s that for a kick in the face!
Re: Zone 5 for boarding on POS DH
Well aware. I'm an RP at AC. I can say in the last 4-5 years I've gotten J a total of 5ish times. PY maybe about the same. Over dozens and dozens of deadheads including overseas DHs that are 9-14 hours long. We are bottom of the barrel for upgrades. These days the J upgrade lists are 20-30 deep with all the aeroplan points and e-upgrades. We sit at the bottom. I also worked at Jazz before, I know all of the history there too.airbussy wrote: ↑Mon May 22, 2023 11:32 pmAs long as RPs at AC don't get biz, Jazz pilots won't either.Loading... wrote: ↑Mon May 22, 2023 3:45 pm Yes absolutly this is an issue and it should, and I hear it is, on the table if bargaining ever starts again.

Re: Zone 5 for boarding on POS DH
I’m quite certain that confirmed J for RP will be gained in the upcoming round of bargaining at AC- your first since 2014.
At Jazz we tried to get even space available for post 2015s in two rounds of bargaining(2018 GGN aquisition) and 2021 Sky aquisition) and got nowhere

Re: Zone 5 for boarding on POS DH
I can't see that happening. It would defeat the purpose of having RPs for a lot of flying. I DH to Europe one direction a lot and operate back. If I got a J seat, they'd just make us work. In which case the "benefit" of having an RP available for more days of work per month (due to not getting full credit for that DH) is defeated along with the cost savings of not having to put us in J.hithere wrote: ↑Wed May 24, 2023 11:26 pm I’m quite certain that confirmed J for RP will be gained in the upcoming round of bargaining at AC- your first since 2014.

I think if it gets to that point where we see 100% DH pay and J for RPs, the RP position will basically be finished. Which I'm ok with.

Is there that much DHing as RP with AC?! How often a month on average would you say? Because if that’s all in coach that must take quite its toll on you regarding fatigue etc. especially if it’s at night - which GOING to Europe would be.
