Its cute that users of a site where every second thread is about fair compensation for work done, want everyone else to provide a service for free and without advertising.

“Yeah volunteers can do it all. Just not me”.

“Raise airline ticket prices to pay for our wages”.

Next post:

“It’s outrageous how much I’m paying for someone to build my deck”.

Literally nobody is asking for that.

As an AvCanada discussion grows longer:
-the probability of 'entitlement' being mentioned, approaches 1
-one will be accused of using bad airmanship

In my younger days, I used to host and maintain a forum similar to this one. I partnered with a friend a bought a server because back then there was no cloud services or renting other people's servers and fractional ownership like there is today.. The we had it hosted and paid for the bandwidth.
Today, the costs might not be as high but there is a cost and these ads probably help to offset that cost. I wish that back then, I could've done that, not to get rich because if you think this is to get rich, you're in the wrong field! I did it for the love of the community I hosted but there's only so much I can spend on something that is not profitable.

a fundraiser or a subscription could be the way to go, but usually those options drive people away to other free platforms..
it's not all black or white..

Adblock Plus FTW! Oh well I can't see some news media articles. Hell no I'm not disabling it for anything.

Rookie is right, though. The adverts on Air Canada right after the safety announcement are terrible. Literally you're a captive audience. I can't think of another advertising scenario where the audience is literally held captive and forced to undergo being advertised at. You can choose not to buy adblockers and just not go on AvCanada. You can put down your tablet and stop watching youtube. Air Canada ties you down and advertises at you. It's borderline abusive.

About AvCanada ads? I've got adblocker. It works great.

I’ve never seen a forum as bad as this. Unusable without adblock.

Adblock pro if you’re on safari on mobile, ublock origin if you’re on firefox. Makes the site like it was 15 years ago.
