Google flight emission estimates
Google flights now shows if your seat has more, or less than average emissions. Here is an example premium economy vs regular economy seat. It appears they even know different aircraft types, and a 737 max shows less emission than an NG. Add a little guilt for those who want comfort. Do you feel influenced much?
But why is it green for the most economical seat? It should be yellow. Green should be for the person who stays home and never gets on the airplane to begin with. Let’s be real, if we are all true liberals here we understand people just need to not exist. Or better yet we need to live in a straw hut with no heat, no car and enough condoms to ensure you never accidentally birth a climate changing baby into this world. Or chop your parts off. All good ideas to save the planet. Let me go raise my flag before you climate change deniers come out trying to convince me that people should be allowed to fly!

Re: Google flight emission estimates
There are more seats on a WestJet 787-9, so fewer emissions per mile.
I agree it's silly though, and I seriously doubt anyone chooses their flight based on carbon emissions.

Re: Google flight emission estimates
That's what I was thinking initially, looking at those numbers... but realized the quote is for Premium Economy vs Economy.... Comparing equivalent density configuration, I'd expect the 787 to be a little better, but there are other factors. And yes, it's ridiculous.Cessna 180 wrote: ↑Sat Jun 17, 2023 12:07 am There are more seats on a WestJet 787-9, so fewer emissions per mile.

When I was at university, the climate change hypothesis was still hotly debated. These days scientific skepticism gets you cancelled.
An example from our esteemed upper house:

And a bonus presentation from Burt Rutan, one of the greatest aerospace engineers of our time:

But hey, just remember to keep your wrong-think to yourself, lest your bank account be frozen for questioning the "consensus".

Oh boy. Didn't exactly intend to wade into the climate change discussion in more general terms, just to comment on the specifics of CO2 emissions being listed in this way along with fares...
Seems like this topic may just be as divisive as the whole COVID vaccine thing.... And....maybe another time...hah!

I'm sure you can find a boogeyman to be scared of behind every corner with a delusional attitude like that. After all, the whole world is just one big conspiracy meant to make your life difficult.
Re: Google flight emission estimates
Bank accounts get frozen when you break the law.
https://www.justice.gc.ca/eng/csj-sjc/r ... art2c.htmlSection 2(c) guarantees the right to peaceful assembly; it does not protect riots and gatherings that seriously disturb the peace: R. v. Lecompte, [2000] J.Q. No. 2452 (Que. C.A.). It has been stated that the right to freedom of assembly, along with freedom of expression, does not include the right to physically impede or blockade lawful activities: Guelph (City) v. Soltys, [2009] O.J. No. 3369 (Ont. Sup. Ct. Jus), at paragraph 26.
And when you have police forces who refuse to uphold the law either because of collusion or outright incompetence.. out comes the Emergencies Act.
Don’t think for a second it was only about the message.
Re: Google flight emission estimates
Never thought I'd see pilots so eager to wholeheartedly endorse a policy initiative which will totally eliminate their entire industry. Maybe just the older fellas banking on this dog and pony show holding up until they can cash out their pensions?
Glad to see we have fans of the Emergencies Act as well, especially when employed in such a clearly apolitical and unbiased manner. When we do it, they're protests, when you do it, it's riots, right Bob?

Re: Google flight emission estimates
What are the specific emissions for your "economy" seat if you're only using 2/3 of it and the other third is being occupied by a "person of size" who only purchased one seat for themselves?
If I'd known I was going to live this long, I'd have taken better care of myself
Re: Google flight emission estimates
Name another protest of that scale in Canada with no effective police intervention.
I’ll wait.

Re: Google flight emission estimates
There's the rub Bob, they skipped the whole "intervention" part and went straight to arrests and bank account freezes. We don't let red tape get in the way of just-in-time justice here in Canada now do we?
But back on point, I really do think that pilots who are on board with climate policies need to disclose it at their next medical. If you're advocating for a policy directly aimed at drastically reducing and/or eliminating your industry and career prospects, you might need your head checked.
I also noticed nobody wants to debate the science anymore, which is interesting. If you're clamoring to shut down air travel for us plebs who don't have Dr. Schwab on speed-dial, at the very least I want to have a rational discussion about the evidence you bring to the table. But all I hear is that the "science is settled", which funnily enough, I've never heard in any other scientific discipline.
But hey, I'm just some guy on the internet. This story will play out regardless of my rambling, because people with actual power are hellbent on getting their way. And if history is any guide, they very likely will.
Be careful what you wish for!

And liberals take Greta to be an expert. This is how you know liberals are a cult.

Re: Google flight emission estimates
I couldn't care less about this "Going Green socialist revolution". It's all bullsh*t. One only has to look at a few things (just at the top of my head, in no particular importance):
1. The elites still fly their private jets
2. China and India (the most populous nations on Earth) give zero ****s about the environment
3. The packaging industry and fast food is still going strong (a 30cm x 15cm package for an USB)? Amazon shipping my wife a lipstick in a 20 x 10 cm empty box?)
4. Flyers are still being delivered to houses
5. Recycling in airports are just for show. In the end, they all end up in the garbage dump
6. We're still printing flight plans
7. Trudeau still flies his jet from Ottawa to Trenton, so I can pay $0.10 cents more every week on diesel.
8. They have a flotilla of airplanes and boats, looking for some entitled f*cks stuck at the bottom of the ocean.
9. People are still getting new iPads and phones every 2 years
10. The clothing / fashion industry is still going strong and people wear something for a few months then throw it away.
Are we humans trashing this planet, cutting down the rainforest, causing extinction of many species, etc. ? Yes. Can we do more to help out? Yes. Is raising taxes and oppressing people in the name of "Climate Catastrophe" the way to do it? NO.
Anyway, I didn't even have my coffee this morning and I'm already angry. (Note to young kids here: Don't do your deck by yourself and try to lift a stupid sander. It'll hurt, then you end up wasting 15 minutes writing a useless rant online)
