PIT 23-17 AUG 23(self study) AUG 28(in class)
I waited 4 weeks total from the interview to offer, my interview was in mid June, background check end of June, reference call first week of July and offer a week after, Good luck everyone!!

Just to make sure you see this, you are also part of the problem, AC continuing to hire is slowing the negotiations and will have an effect on the starting pay. The union cannot possibly justify significant increases at the bottom when pilots just keep showing up for courses.smooth wrote: ↑Mon Jul 17, 2023 5:39 am PIT 23-16 AUG 9(self study) AUG 14(in class)

I assume based on the conversation “no shows” is declined offers. Like I said this guy was told by your HR department, their course date is October? But they may be moved up to September due to “no shows”Crewbunk wrote: ↑Mon Jul 17, 2023 8:39 am I’m not sure what you are calling “no shows”.
I’m in the training department, (I’m an A330 IOETC), and I see no “no shows” for PIT courses. Namely, those who have accepted an offer, then didn’t show up.
What there has been though, are two Westjet pilots that when offered a course, they declined. Probably for the reasons you cite. Are you calling that a “no show”?
While I don’t agree with flat pay, (it’s been around for as long as I’ve been flying and that is a long time), AC is correct in assessing that they will never have trouble filling courses. Say no, on your principles and five more are waiting to take each place.
Right now, I could see a game plan for new hires that gets them on the seniority list as soon as possible. The planned hiring over the next two years is eye-watering.

You look down your nose at Jazz pilots for accepting the pay but somehow you can justify your choice, let me guess, you are just going until you see what the new pay is but you will quit if it’s not what you were expecting! Sure, that’ll happen!
From what I’ve heard though from a Jazz pilot who is part of the fall courses, he was told that his start date is in October but could be moved to September due to no shows.
My assumption is the no shows are WJ pilots who have now decided to stay put with their new contract but make no mistake, AC continuing to attract any pilots will weaken the union’s negotiating, I’d be surprised to see a significant raise at the bottom end, maybe matching WJ at best.

Yes and no, as I said that pilots accepting the pay will weaken negotiating positions for the union, you can’t argue for higher starting pay when pilots show up for the current pay.Jester123 wrote: ↑Mon Jul 17, 2023 11:01 amcdnavater, cdnavater wrote: ↑Mon Jul 17, 2023 8:26 amJust to make sure you see this, you are also part of the problem, AC continuing to hire is slowing the negotiations and will have an effect on the starting pay. How is a new hire "part of the problem" when it comes to pay? This is not a new hire's problem. Pay is an issue that is negotiated between the union and the company. We voted ALPA in to address issues. Let's put our trust in them to handle it. There is nothing wrong with someone coming to AC to move up the career ladder and we should not be pointing fingers at them. Pilots will and should show up for courses. Minus the flat pay and other contractual issues that need to be addressed, AC and WJ are the only best gigs in town and pilots will do what they have to do. Glad to see pilots finding value in the companies they're at if AC/WJ is not on their radar.
Good for you and maybe I misunderstood your point, when you say they are part of the problem it’s assumed because they accept the conditions not because they complained.smooth wrote: ↑Mon Jul 17, 2023 11:05 am Good for you that you choose jazz, I’ve never look down on any airlines, in fact, I have many friends who work/worked at jazz. They made that choice because it was the best option they had, and nothing wrong with that. But accepting the offer and agree with the contract then complain about it, that’s my problem with that attitude.
Jazz ain’t perfect but most people worked there I know rarely complain, they actually appreciate jazz gave them the opportunities in order to go somewhere better. They went to AC/WJ/porter/Transat for a better opportunity.
I choose AC knowing the 4 years flat pay. And I’m okay with it, because I can afford the pay cut. Because AC in the end still worth it, it is the best airline Canada can offer. Do I like flat pay? No, but I do not complain after I accepted the offer.
My class has 35-40 people. It is FULL. The HR lady told us because AC is the end goal for most pilots in the country. We NEVER had issues filling up the classes. NEVER.
If you don’t like where you work, look somewhere else, there are so many opportunities now than EVER in Canada. WJ/Transat/porter/Flair/Sunwing/Cargojet…etc. Opportunity will only be yours if you stop complaining and make a change
And last question for you cdnavater, have you ever applied AC in your life? Were you also wanting to be part of the problem you mentioned?

To answer your question, yes but back when I applied it was the equivalent of 80,000 adjustment for inflation and after I came to Jazz I didn’t look back.
I sort of applied again when the 2015 contract included the interview which I turned down when my time came, I’m not bitter as I was not going to give up my pension and luckily when I ended up on LTD I wasn’t there, the difference was significant as GIDIP isn’t good for AC until after 7 years before that it’s 40% of your shit wage, I would have gone bankrupt.
Anyhow, I do agree, don’t accept the shit sandwich and then complain about how bad it tastes.
I do not blame you, AC long term is hands down the best gig in Canada
@smooth, I hope that HR lady also told you that you made it to NHL of airlines.smooth wrote: ↑Mon Jul 17, 2023 11:05 am Good for you that you choose jazz, I’ve never look down on any airlines, in fact, I have many friends who work/worked at jazz. I know one person that recently had a background check prior to receiving the PFO.

Your official start date is the start of your home study. Yes you are paid for it.
Nice! They just told I had to have the FOM read by the first day of PIT. Plus a mountain of HR paperwork. The RAIC application took a long time too but I imagine most people already have that.Crewbunk wrote: ↑Tue Jul 18, 2023 7:59 am Training pay starts when training starts. “Home Study” through the training apps is monitored, acknowledged, tested and stored …. and is regarded by Transport Canada as approved training.
You will receive direction on how to accomplish this training. It is required and you are paid.
Once you are on the line you will encounter this from time to time. Some recurrent training is performed at home. Normally, it is paid time.
I don’t think any airlines pays for the RAIC application time or HR paperwork, but I may be wrong. It left a bad taste in my mouth that I wasn't paid for all that.
That’s been my experience, it’s a job requirement to obtain it just like your license, on your own time.
