Convert EASA B1.3 to AME

Post by just1more130 »

Good evening All,

I am a B1.3 with 25years of experience, part military now civi.

My Canadian wife now wants to make the move back home and it seems to be a mine field as to finding a job and converting my license.

Does anyone have any details of how I’d go about this or if there are any companies that would be willing to sponsor.

Thanks in advance

Dave

Wherever you are it is surely better than Canada. Very tough place to earn a living and have a decent quality of life.

I fully concur with the above statement. Canada at this moment has one of the highest house prices and lowest house inventory in the G7 nations. Unless you have previous property here, it will be a nightmare to find a place to rent, and with the interest rate, it will be a nightmare to buy.

The conversion it’s self is not that bad of a process. You will have to write all four Tests: airframe, power-plant, standard and can aviation regs.

Finding a job here will be a pain in the ass. Especially coming from Europe. You will find that a lot of operators outside of major metropolitan cities operate very farm like. Much more loose then EASA.

I can’t imagine coming to Canada you will have a better deal than where you are now.

Thanks for the replies, unfortunately UK is not much different. But having spent 3 weeks over visiting family in Kamloops, Canada is looking more appealing. Apart from all the zombies (druggies) that are loafing about. It’s a five year plan anyway, just putting the feelers out that’s all.

I don't think Kamloops cost of living is quite the worst in Canada but your choices for employment are very limited in the immediate area.

Closest place would be Kelowna, with KF or Carson, but the round trip commute from Kamloops is almost 4 hours, depending on traffic, which has worsened drastically in the last 3 years due to people moving here.
Neither companies are highly sought after places of employment with at least KF being notorius for that, but they will sell you a nice fairy tale to try and get you in.. Positve is either one is desperate for bodies. Negatives additionaly are Kelowna area being top 3 most expensive areas to live in Canada and LOADS of zombies that are continually increasing numbers.

Vancouver area is much more the same scenario cost wise but there are a few more KF-like companies to choose from but your take home pay will also mostly be vaporized trying to live there.

Canada is interesting because even if hourly wage was increased in proportion to cost of living/inflation you would be taking home less due to the messed up tax system here.

Im not surprised England is as messed up as here. Canada should have broken away completly from British systemic influences like our southern neighbors did decades ago.
Beside having family residing here, I cant think of any reason to choose emigrating here. I'd leave in a heartbeat if the US opened up its borders to AME's.

I was not aware it was the UK you were coming from as to my understanding it isn’t the best place to be living either and unfortunately due to Brexit it kind of screw’s you guys from the nice, warm parts of Europe for work, life unrestricted etc. If you were talking Italy,Spain,,Portugal I would say what are you thinking coming here. As the above posters said Kamloops would be challenging. If I were you I’d look for a rotation but then your life would suffer….potentially. You imop would not be gaining financially for sure by coming here but if it was the west coast weather would be way better. If your heading east we’ll bring a parka and boots and buy some snow tires. Good luck.
