Do you bring a second uniform on overseas pairings?
The suitcase isn't very big so I've just been wearing the same pants and shirt on the way home. I change my undergarments of course. I hope I'm not smelly.
Re: Do you bring a second uniform on overseas pairings?
Ask your mom to pack you a second uniform in your suitcase before she drops you off at work.
In all seriousness and to answer your question, I've always carried an extra shirt and pant in my suitcase. Depending on the length of the pairing I'll swap pants and shirts. Always good to have a spare after the F/A drops coffee on your shirt.
Re: Do you bring a second uniform on overseas pairings?
Pro tip: hang your shirt/pants in the bathroom after you've showered. It keeps it crisper/cleaner for much longer. Saves you on ironing!

Re: Do you bring a second uniform on overseas pairings?
I bring 1 shirt per flight day. If its Europe, just an extra shirt. If it's winter and I have 3-4 days of southern turns out of a different airport other than my base, then 3-4 shirts it is. I find the extra shirts and under shirts don't really take up much valuable space. I prefer to only wear a shit once between washes as it keeps the yellow stains on the collar at bay.

This does not reflect well on the maturity and competence of the pilot group

Do you have to sit on a phone book to see over the dash?

I get the idea of how this is supposed to work, but the one time I tried it after hearing about it, I saw no change in the state of the shirt or pants.

What you decide to wear is between you and I suppose your fellow crew members.

It's more a wrinkle control measure but I found it keeps the shirt a bit fresher as well. Seemed to work better on clothing items with some wool, and perhaps cotton, in it. If you've got high polyester stuff contents, it won't do much for wrinkles.Tbayer2021 wrote: ↑Thu Aug 24, 2023 2:55 pm

I'm starting to think I'll just get in the shower in uniform and then let it air dry.

Hehe, efficiency, I like it!
Remember, you don't have to look good. You just have to look better than the colleague you're flying with

New pilots just keep getting younger and younger. I truly believe some pilots have their mothers pack their bags for them.

No doubt the average age in the flight deck is decreasing. But it has been my experience that the younger the pilot, the better kept the uniform looks. It's consistently the senior guys that wear a shirt that looks like it hasn't been washed or ironed in ages, pants that haven't seen the dry cleaners ever.Blackdog0301 wrote: ↑Thu Aug 24, 2023 5:58 pm New pilots just keep getting younger and younger. Re: Do you bring a second uniform on overseas pairings?
Why not discuss it with the guys you fly with? The guys on the same plane would know best over asking the internet?
Anyways, I always have a spare shirt, I don't always wear a new one each day but always a fresh undershirt.
Often you can just shampoo the pits and collar and let it hang for the day or three to dry on the layover. It just depends on the flight, the season... Pretty hard to describe how to wear clothes....
Just change your drawers if you shit yourself. Flipping them inside out is for the regional guys.

Don’t eat the lukewarm mystery meat burger at the snack bar in Varadero. In fact, don’t eat anything on a Cuban layover. Your crew, body and underpants will thank you. Ignore this advice at your own risk and always carry an emergency chewable pepto bismol. Remember kids, fasting is healthy for you, especially on flat pay.
Also if you’re packing light, carry these in your flight bag:

Or the wipes https://www.amazon.ca/Tide-Instant-Stai ... 04f1ca0da8
And one of these when you dump your entire tray of butter chicken on your only white shirt:

Complex systems won’t survive the competence crisis

Proof how young our pilots are. Yes you also have to pack extra underwear.

Before you ask, chew with your mouth closed, with your tongue moving the food from side to side and your jaw rotating slightly. Chew slow and steadily, counting to 32 with each bite. We don't expect you to count 32 times, but just ensure the food in your mouth loses all of its texture before swallowing.

Just cause you can't remember the new experiences you had when you switched to airline flying doesn't mean have to be an a$$ about it. Crew suitcases have gotten smaller and once you throw your running/exercise gear in, its s tight fit.thrust set wrote: ↑Fri Aug 25, 2023 10:18 am Before you ask, chew with your mouth closed, with your tongue moving the food from side to side and your jaw rotating slightly. It's a simple question.
He/she may be inexperienced but the older generation was terrible at ACTUALLY taking off at only 26,900 lbs, not just on paper. It doesn't take a slide rule to figure it out.
PS with a legal load you don't get your feet wet closing the pax door on a single otter on floats.
Your generation has a lot of baggage and terrible habits that the future generation shad to fight and break down.
Re: Do you bring a second uniform on overseas pairings?
Polish your shoes please, you’re not a farmer. And save the blundstones for home. We’re trying to run a civilization here.

Don't forget they were also hired straight out of school while OP probably spent 15 years in the bush. A farmer probably knows more about haute couture.
Re: Do you bring a second uniform on overseas pairings?
So do plumbers and oil patch workers. I'd argue they might be more important to civilization than pilots with or without fancy dress shoes.
Blundstone makes (made?) a black dress boot as well by the way, which you can polish if it tickles your fancy.

Re: Do you bring a second uniform on overseas pairings?
Having large feet, much space is taken up by runners. But standard is one pair shirt/socks/ underwear per day on tour, shorts/tracks couple of uni shirts, and a spare of pants. Normally easy 4 days in a 21 " roller.
