Air Canada stopping non stop flights from Calgary.
Air Canada is slashing six major routes out of Calgary this winter, in part due to an industry-wide pilot shortage.

The airline confirmed Wednesday it will no longer offer non-stop flights from Calgary to Ottawa, Halifax, Los Angeles, Honolulu, Cancun, or Frankfurt as of the end of October.

Air Canada spokesman Peter Fitzpatrick says the cancellations are intended to improve the “overall operational stability” of the airline.

“The industry-wide shortage of regional pilots is expected to have a prolonged impact on Air Canada’s regional network,” Fitzpatrick said in an email

They had already stopped other flights from Calgary for a while. Westjet has also stopped direct flights to Vancouver from many places, and is concentrating on Calgary. It makes sense to consolidate.

Typical Air Canada management. Treat the Jazz pilots like scum for years. Meddle in negotiations. Pay poverty wages. Violate the contract and not honour flow and then wonder why everyone is leaving. Then blame your woes on the lack of regional pilots.

The cancellation of the frankfurt flight surprises me as that was usually quite a popular one for the west for AC. Saved alot of time for those in the west and used to be quite full.

Obviously it's a tail and crewing issue.

They said the problem is the regional shortage, they are covering for Jazz shortage.

To clarify, AC would have to sort out their pay long before anything of that magnitude - or anything approximating the payscales of the biggest consumer of Jazz pilots - Porter - comes to fruition at Jazz.

I feel by the time AC ALPA gets something developed, Jazz will have all but faded.
