Air Canada hiring?
Greetings and salutations, my fellow aviators.
I recently graduated from flight college in the aviation program. I haven't really started job looking around my home town in London, Ontario because I went on a trip to Europe. Boy, I sure would like to fly over there, they sure let young guys like me fly neat planes. I think it would be nice to fly well maintained aircraft instead of flying junk in nasty little northern towns like Winnipeg. But I guess we have to do what we can.
I was wondering, although I am low time (under 400 hours), do you think I should apply to Air Canada with all their pilot hiring thats going on? I understand that because I went to aviation college that I may be able to get in with my time? I was always hoping Air Canada would work out a program where they could hire direct grads from our school, that would have been neat.
Do you guys think my direct hire idea would work? I've heard that it works in other parts of the world, it sure would save us AirCan a lot of money!

Honest answer?
It never hurts to open a file with AC, but they have proven that it doesn't matter to them. I know a person who applied online for the first time ( >2000 hours ) and a week later got a call.
Plan to go north or do an instructor rating, that's the simple-hard-truth.
oh, PS: Winnipeg is not considered "northern"
Good luck.

Man, with your time you shouldn't have to go north, I mean you shouldn't even have to go as far a praire sound or barrie. Us 2000+ tt guys are just way up north here in tbay and WINNIPEG cause noone else wants us.
LOLOLOL, here fishy fishy, wammmmmm(hits him in head with paddle)

"The ability to ditch an airplane in the Hudson does not qualify a pilot for a pay raise. The ability to get the pilots, with this ability, to work for 30% or 40% pay cuts qualifies those in management for millions in bonuses."
You guys, stop bashing this "poor" fellow pilot around, please.
You will traumatize and scare away and him.
He doesn't have a clue what is aviation here in America, just give him some time to realize...
I'm pretty shure he will end up having a better job that mos of us here...
I've seen this happen before !!!

"instead of flying junk in nasty little northern towns like Winnipeg."
Just a little friendly advice Seneca guy, do not ever say things like that again if you hope to make it in aviation in this country. A good number of us who now fly thoses big fancy jets you want to fly come from town like Winnipeg. Further more if you do not already know Air Canada has a rather large base there so I don't think they would appreciate your comments.
Be happy to get a job anywhere you can, don't ever put down the location, especially as a 400 hour wonder.

guy who likes northern towns and who has never called Winnipeg "northern"

Senecagrad...that is if you are a Seneca grad, PM me so I can give out a mouthful.
I'm sick of the industry thinking of us College Grads, in particular Seneca, as pansies.
I'll admit it, I'm a Seneca grad. Want to knock me? Fine.
I've busted my balls for at least 7 years workin the ramp through high school and college as a fueler, de-icer, and people-pleaser.
I'm currently on the Instructor route. Am I expecting right seat 767 with Big Red any time soon? Not a chance. In fact I'm looking forward to that "northern" job for a few years...there's a lot to learn.
Do I have my application in with Big Red? Yup. But I've submitted my resume to several operators. There's nothing wrong with updating your application with operators you'd like to work for in the future. It's called planning.
I'll be honest - I was surprised with my classmates at Seneca. From what I was hearing in the industry, I was expecting a bunch of anti-social pencil-neck nerds who knew only how to brag. The reality of the situation is that everyone was pretty level-headed, and liked beer just as much as I did (do). There is a profound sense of academic and former military rigour encompassed into the program - but that was expected. Seneca will make you work for what you get. The Profs and Instructors make it real clear that we'd better not walk out with attitudes. In the end you make your own bed.
So excuse my little tangent. Recent Seneca Grad, I really don't believe you are a Seneca grad. And if you are, you should know who I am, so drop me a line.
