I was at the Tofino airport a while back and wandered into their hangar. A couple of Quebecers working on a smelly beaver under dim light with a frog croaking under an aileron stacked on the floor. Place looked like a dumping ground for dead or dying junk. You would have to be cut from a certain cloth to work in that type of environment.

A quick look at realtor.ca puts lots of places within purchasing reach on that salary…not!

You might be able to rent a camper van like said quebecers
and possibly use the hanger toilet while squatting against the hanger . This way you can always rub the airplanes. I like the “tips” part though. Now an AME works for tips also like a bellhop. Awesome.

That sounds about right. Always wondered why quebecers are so willing to sell thier asses for cheap. The worst offers for contract I've ever gotten are from quebec.

Looks like tofino air spends thier money on thier webpage.

I worked at that place a few years back for about a month in the winter. The " Quebecer" is originally from Belgium. He is a good guy actually, just trying to keep his head above the water like the rest of us. Has a family to take care of and means well. I couldn't take it anymore after a month because of the absolute abysmal working conditions of the "hanger". Its an old fish processing building with an addition to house an aircraft. There was a wood stove at the back of the place that needed to be constantly fed with half seasoned firewood to get some radiant heat. Had to dress in winter attire to stay warm and place bucking bars that were heat off the wood stove in your pockets. When it rained ( like it does on the west coast) water would back up and sump pumps would be continually running to try and keep up to empty the troughs in the floors. It was a must to wear rubber boots if you didn't want to get your feet wet. The place at the time was controlled by an Absentee owner from Vancouver who owned some sports affiliated business. Not sure of the present day ownership, or if there has been any substantial changes to the working conditions in the hanger, but I will flat out say that was the worst place I've ever had the misfortune of trying to work in the last 36 years.

The “family to feed” excuse is quite lame. Everyone has choices. Cranking out kids was definitely the wrong choice for this guy and I feel sorry for them honestly as their opportunities will be limited by this individual. Working in a parka and gum boots……really? Who in their right mind would do that? In the age of internet there is a wealth of information out there for everyone to perouse about quality of life, life choices etc. Even third world individuals have figured it out based on what they see on the phone and the web like WOW imagine people have shoes and clean water in another country…..let’s go there! All I can say is what an idiot.

I guess this was to be expected but it doesnt change the reality that almost all of the current vacancies dont pay enough to live and get ahead.

There will probably be more of the type described working at tofino air who will rush in but I doubt that a large number will remain when they become aware of of how hard it is to live in this country. I do seem to see a lot of news stories about skilled immigrants who are leaving canada.

We will see. :D
