Question on CFS translation

Post by shylnj26 »

Hello,

I am looking at the CFS and I could not find what "LO4" "LO6" "HI5" mean..

I know LO = Low intensity runway light and HI = High intensity runway edge light, but not sure about those 4, 6 ,5 meaning.

Please help me out!

Thank you in advance.

Yes, it’s which IFR charts the airport is found on. LO being Low Level Enroute Charts, and HI being High Level Enroute Charts. Nothing very exciting!

Late Reply,

But as previously mentioned, the CFS is telling you which charts to reference for your operational needs.

Often, you may need multiple charts that connect with each other, depending on your flight plan… Especially if you don’t use electronic flight bags.

In the pre amble of the CFS, it explains exactly what every section / abbreviations mean.

The acronyms for the different types of lights are even more confusing. Like ODALS, HIALS, MALSR, etc.

Don’t forget SSALR.
I always thought those acronyms meant the overall same thing: the runway has approach lights of a type mostly appropriate for the environment and the approach type you are doing.
