Does Jazz hire people with only one base choice? Or all hires have to bid on the base?

Basically, due to some personal reasons, is there a way to know if you can start at the base you prefer before commencing training?

Base and aircraft is picked during the first week of training. You do not know what will be available for your groundschool before you show up. You might be able to get the desired base right away, if not, most new hires have been able to transfer within a few months, often before finishing training.

Once you're hired and assigned an aircraft and base, there's no way to be put back into the talent pool to retry for the next class, but not to worry, it should only take a couple months before you're able to transfer to your base of preference. That is assuming you're assigned Q400 or CRJ as they have western bases. If you're assigned the Embraer, you'll be frozen for 2 years on type and be forced to commute from out west but as of now, they're no longer doing any initials on the Embraer as Porter scooped up most of the Jazz training department for that aircraft. You could also apply to other companies with western operations such as Flair, Westjet, Cargojet, Morningstar, Porter(yvr base coming soon?) and if you don't get your preferred western base at Jazz, just resign and go to one of those companies as that has happened a few times recently during Jazz PIT courses.

My class in September had all YYC and YVR assignments. Sounds like lots of movement to the eastern bases and spots opening up in the west.

The short answer to both is No.

Initial grounschool and sim in YYZ does include hotel accommodation and per diems. There should be a few gaps in initial to allow you to go home or scout out stuff but it is not 'provided' per se

Was told that by 2 weeks after sim eval/drug screening/CRC we will get an answer. It's true that my last reference was contacted middle of 2nd week after the sim eval. Going now into the 3rd week is a good or bad sign? Can they take another week/2/3 after your references have been contacted?

Question, let's say I get an offer next week, what is the earliest GS date I could get? I assume the 30th Oct is out of the question so would the 20th be reasonable? Or there's a chance for even a later one (11th Dec)?

I'm seriously considering doing some traveling now before getting (finger crossed, knock on wood) hired. I have a feeling that once I start this journey, the first year will have very little opportunity to travel anymore, possibly at least until I finish with reserve shifts.
