Re: Fall 2023 Hiring Update
Was offered a ground school start in November.
I'm not aware if it's because of growth or attrition, but they have resumed hiring.
Falls in line with some posters who had said recruitment will resume in the fall.

Re: Fall 2023 Hiring Update
There is very little if any growth in the near future. This is mostly to cover off attrition to Porter and Air Canada.

Re: Fall 2023 Hiring Update
how much would it cost on average to commute every month for a new FO?
Re: Fall 2023 Hiring Update
A lot of variables to that question, I’ve been commuting for 20 years and it varies quite a bit.flyingpilot wrote: ↑Tue Oct 17, 2023 7:55 am how much would it cost on average to commute every month for a new FO?
You will likely need a Crashpad and need to plan on 2 to 3 commutes per month, when you’re junior it could be worse and it really depends a lot on how many other commuters at the same base, they will be bidding the multi day pairings.
Crashpads vary, you will pay 300ish for a hot bunk to 6-700 for a shared room in some cities, so count on 600-1000 per month, I looked years ago and it was an average of 800 per month after tax money but I got way too old to share a room with three other pilots and went the having my own room route.
Re: Fall 2023 Hiring Update
As far as worrying about a ground school date, if you don’t have accommodations and flair doesn’t provide you with a hotel for the entire time during your training, I would seriously consider looking elsewhere for employment. They can afford shiny new jets, they can afford hotels while you get yourself established.
Re: Fall 2023 Hiring Update
Are there airlines in Canada that pay for accommodation for your entire line training if it's in your assigned base? I was under the impression you are on your own other than maybe the ground school portion, but if it's in your base city I'm not sure even that would be paid for... which airlines are providing it? Sounds like a big improvement

Re: Fall 2023 Hiring Update
I've never heard of an airline paying for hotels for more than GS and sim.

Jazz provides new hires accommodations and meal expense for day one to completion of the PPC, regardless of your base.ready wrote: ↑Tue Oct 17, 2023 8:17 pm Are there airlines in Canada that pay for accommodation for your entire line training if it's in your assigned base? Re: Fall 2023 Hiring Update
Not sure if Sunwing still does this, but when I did my initial training back in 2017, they not only provided everyone with a hotel in YYZ (even if based in YYZ), but they gave each SIM pairing a rental car for the duration of training if they lived outside of YYZ or didn't have a car at their disposal. The car was to get to and from CAE, the uniform supplier, the RAIC office, etc.
That perk definitely saved a lot of time waiting for cabs or the hotel shuttle.

That would be awesome, where did you leave the car for days off?DHC-1 Jockey wrote: ↑Wed Oct 18, 2023 4:26 pm Not sure if Sunwing still does this, but when I did my initial training back in 2017, they not only provided everyone with a hotel in YYZ (even if based in YYZ), but they gave each SIM pairing a rental car for the duration of training if they lived outside of YYZ or didn't have a car at their disposal. It is still the case. There is parking available at Sunwing and if you’re flying home for a few days they usually get people to return the car and pick up a new one when you return. Many people use it to drive home if they’re from YUL or YOW. The furthest I’ve heard was a guy who drove to YQM in the rental when he had a long break in training.cdnavater wrote: ↑Wed Oct 18, 2023 5:30 pmThat would be awesome, where did you leave the car for days off?DHC-1 Jockey wrote: ↑Wed Oct 18, 2023 4:26 pm Not sure if Sunwing still does this, but when I did my initial training back in 2017, they not only provided everyone with a hotel in YYZ (even if based in YYZ), but they gave each SIM pairing a rental car for the duration of training if they lived outside of YYZ or didn't have a car at their disposal.
