I was being facetious because we definitely do want people with 703/704/604 experience with ATPLs. Having a PICUS program doesn’t mean we only hire people without ATPL minimums.
What type of 703 704 604 experience is desired currently? Medevac, Cargo, Charter, Corporate?
Happyflyer, I offered to help but I have to say, you are starting to come across as the same poster several months back who was trolling. I offered to help him and he would not give me his name, just his total time. So, I called HR on his behalf and was told his resume was half a page long and they were ignoring it because even the name on it seemed fake.
So publicly, I will keep my offer to you but only if you PM your name to me, I won’t waste my time or HRs time.
If this is the same poster, shame on you! This web board has become somewhat of a waste of time and nothing of substance really gets posted, I will always try to help a fellow pilot but this guy has me jaded and again if it was you, you’re a dick for doing this.
You have nothing to lose here, PM your name if you are for real, if you’re worried about your anonymity, you’re a new poster and could just create a new profile.
Definitely not wasting my time nor anyones.
HR rep could pick up the phone, have a chat and ask for a scan of aviation booklet to confirm license in order to move on in recruitment process. Assuming things is usually not wise.
In this instance unfortunately you’re assuming wrong. That’s okay, you’re entitled to that.
Sometimes things take longer than expected such as the case with the member looking for 1st job with 650 hours. They kept at it and opportunities have recently come their direction.

Ok HappyFlyer, I’ll take you at your word, are you saying your resume is half a page long?
They definitely won’t call, it’s about a professional look, not assumptions, if your resume doesn’t look professional they simply won’t even look at you.
Something is wrong with your profile, nearly 6000 hours will absolutely get calls for 705, all of them are hiring and every single candidate I’ve encountered at Jazz in the last year did not have previous 705 experience, some had just king air time doing medevacs and charters.
Please don’t offer to work the ramp at 6000 hours, this statement makes people think you are not for real, besides I doubt any 705, not even Perimeter would take you on the ramp, this is so ludicrous that you would consider that. As a former CP, I would . your resume in the round file holder if you did.
You should have someone you trust take a look at your resume, if you’re not getting called it could be that.
One final statement, 90% of the new hires at Jazz and Encore didn’t have previous 705, Porter would have a higher percentage of 705 pilots because they’ve been poaching Jazz pilots.

My resume is close to a page and was kindly reviewed by an HR rep at my current employer who I have a good relationship with, who would like to see me advance career which I have put time, effort in to be prepared to do.
I only applied a bit more than a month ago. I came on here to get a perspective of the hiring qualifications as it seems odd with the talk in news articles of crew shortages, companies aren’t contacting applicants quickly. I’m confident my experience in 703/704/604 ops has given me valuable experience that would allow success in 705 ops.
I don’t think it’s ludicrous to work ramp. If one’s experience doesn’t prove they’d successful in the training then getting to know someone through a position that the company doesn’t have to invest a lot in seems like a good idea to me.

I can 1000% percent guarantee that one page resume will not get you a call, you need a cover letter, you need work history for all experience not just flying, if any. You need your education any hobbies, achievements, etc. I would say a minimum of three pages.
Your HR rep, is not looking at it from an airline hiring point of view, maybe one page will do for them but I can tell you that a single page resume that came across my desk wouldn’t get much attention.
You need to engage a professional resume company for help, I’m absolutely certain this is why you haven’t been called. My resume for an internal job posting was still four pages long including the cover.

I disagree. A cover letter and a one page resume. We counted multi page resumes as a negative when I was involved in hiring. I don’t care if you worked at Starbucks while you were in flight school. On the other hand, I’m pretty certain that this guy is a troll. I’ve been training a lot of sub 1000hr pilots to fly 737’s lately.

Yup. Agreed. I was also involved in HR at one point in my life. Two paragraph cover letter and one page resume. If it needs staples, it’s already too long.

@cdnavater. Good on you to try and help a fellow pilot out. You’re a solid mentor and I’m sure a good training captain.

This member you’re retrying to help is a troll. It’s been clear as day. 6000 TT will get you in basically anywhere even with the shitt€sT of resumes If you can tell a couple stories during an interview.

Refer someone you actually know. Or have at least talked to on the phone.

Well that’s interesting, I might be out of date but are we talking small type?
I wanted to see first and foremost your experience without struggling to find it, the related work experience and blank time filled in by the unrelated work experience, then your education and achievements, then interests like team sports, etc and references.
It had to be easy to read, so some bullets and bold type, I couldn’t fit my resume on one page, it’s also what I used in conjunction with the logbook for interviews.
I wouldn’t stick my neck out for someone I don’t know but I would enquire to see why he hasn’t been called, to maybe give some insight on what he needs to fix.
But, yes with 6000 hours if Encore or Jazz aren’t drooling over his resume, something is up. I would think Porter, WJ and AC would be interested as well. When I applied with similar time, it was during a hiring cycle but no where near as crazy as now, I applied on Saturday, was called Monday for an interview the following Wednesday, SIM eval a week later and ground school offer two weeks later.
The whole point of the recent pay increase was to attract upgradable pilots, so….

Same here. Encore auto rejected me because I didn’t have the ATPL. I had everything except total time. Porter interviewed me within 2 weeks of applying and I had 1470 hours of 703 time.
This guy is 100% trolling and we are all feeding the troll haha.

Honestly, I can’t stress this enough, if you’re not getting called, it’s your resume, I would definitely start there. Do you have a cover letter?
Do you know any pilots at any of the airlines who you could ask to inquire or just look over your resume.
Apply to all of them, many, many pilots have been hired straight to WJ and AC without any previous 705 experience, your assumption that you need previous 705 experience is wrong.
Good luck

I’m 100% confident my resume is acceptable.
No I do not have a cover letter, the application portals have that as an optional upload.
Been in the industry long enough I know people at practically every airline. I’m not asking any to inquire to HR, I follow companies application processes and let recruitment decide if my experience is desirable at the time.

No I do not have a cover letter
[/quote]

That’s probably part of your problem. If you can’t be bothered to write a cover letter, you’re showing that you’re not that interested. Doesn’t take a lot of effort to write a personalized cover letter

Good luck

No disrespect but I think your info may be a little out-of-date.

I've been in the industry for 20 years and since day one I have been told that your resume should never be more than one page. Having more than one page is an express lane to the delete button. I've taken that advice to heart and my one-page resume has served me well. Including getting me in at Porter.

No disrespect taken, seems like it however, my resume has had me called every time I was looking for a job and at times I was receiving multiple calls, it’s 4 pages including a cover and references at the back, so really 2 plus cover.
Last time I was in charge of hiring was over 20 years ago now and my resume is also that old, it seems it’s subjective. Just like if I was doing the interviewing, I’d be biased against n your face tattoos, just saying I preferred insight into the potential employee that I couldn’t get from one page.
Edit, I found a study that was done on this one vs two page resume, two page won. The study was 2018, fairly current however it sounds like Porter will still call you if there is one page but as I said it’s subjective to the person reviewing the resumes.

Good luck on your interview! Most interviews are fairly similar. Tell us about yourself. Why porter? What do you know about our company?

Then there’s usually some HR type questions…. And these aren’t necessarily the ones you are gonna get:

Tell us a time where you had a disagreement with a coworker or your captain, how did you resolve it?

Tell us about a time where you had to break SOPs?

Tell us a time you went above and beyond your duties.

There’s a lot of posts on avcanada about similar questions. I suggest doing a little research. Also, it helps to think of memorable (good and bad) flights you’ve had or situations you’ve been in.

Also; Google the “STAR method” to answering interview questions. It’s not always the answer you give, it’s how you structure your response.

I think these might be the exact questions I got in my interview. They definitely ring a bell.

Absolutely. There have been a number of times when I didn't have an exact scenario for the question they asked (or more likely I just couldn't remember an exact scenario) so I'll say "I can tell you what I would do in that situation".

The actual response you give is only a portion of what they're looking at. They're also watching your body language, the way you speak, confidence, presence, etc.

It's based on qualifications and being succinct in your delivery, no different than a radio call.

If you have a super diverse career and the position you are applying for makes sense to include all the experience you have, then yeah, your resume (in aviation) might get to 2 pages.

Most aviators don't have enough diversity to stretch out past 1 page without including TMRI (too much random information).

I think it’s when you include your McDonalds burger flipping job at age 16 on your 3 page resume that airlines start the PFO process.

That could be initimidating experience. For an Air Canada regional like Jazz, they would know that your salary was likely higher flipping burgers.

Don’t forget, less deductions.
