Porter E2 VS WestJet

Post by aboveclouds »

Which is a better option for a long term career based out of Toronto, Porter E2 or WestJet?

Porter Pros:
Faster upgrade time
Will climb in seniority fast
Toronto base will always be around

WestJet Pros:
Established airline with jets since 1996
Lots of destinations
Social bidding
Part of ALPA Union
WestJet savings Plan with 10% of salary from start

Porter Pros:

WestJet Pros:
Established airline with jets since 1996
Lots of destinations -
Social bidding
Part of ALPA Union
WestJet savings Plan with 10% of salary from start
1996 - lots of formerly established airlines have shrunk or disappeared.
Lots of Destinations - Porter will to with its growth plans
Part of ALPA Union - Porter will join the ranks, just a matter of when. Company is throwing money at people, but ignoring the fact that we have little home life. That is horrible, and will bring in ALPA.

Not sure how you figure WestJet is shrinking. They have a pile of aircraft on order, have been very vocal about growth plans and Sunwing coming onboard over the next couple years. Hardly shrinking to me.

This is aviation tho. Don’t believe it till you see it is what I’ve learned over the years. Goes for every airline and their expansion plans.
WestJet Group will accept delivery of no fewer than 65 aircraft in the next six years, at least 50 will be 737-10 aircraft

Likely just replacing the clapped out NGs though. Mgmt has always avoiding answering the number of those orders that are replacements vs additions to the fleet. I’ve seen it come up at a couple of town halls and they always dodge the question.

Does anybody recognize similar posts on multiple threads from numerous accounts. This has been hashed over a million times. Any one with any care for a company would have already read every single post.

This is already happening, and has been basically from the start. Albeit a slower rate than some dash pilots might like.

Not sure where the seniority problem lies here. They’re hiring for 100 airplanes. Even with the entire Q roster moved over top of you you’d still be sitting pretty if you get in now.

You’re welcome. Interviews are a great time to ask questions to the company.
