Class 4 instructor pay these days?

Post by Z28 »

Hello aviators

Just wondering what they pay class 4 instructors these days on average per hour ? Schools seem to charge between $75-$95 hour for the instructor so just wondering.

Thanks in advance

I started instructing in the late 90's, early aughts. If I recall the instructor rate was $40/hr. I earned $15/hr as a class 4, $20 as a class 3 and $25 as a class 2. So, 37%, 50% & 62% of the gross revenue.

Today's dollars
Assuming $90/hr, $33, $45, $56/hr for class 4, 3, 2 respectively.
Seems about right.

Interesting numbers. I started instructing in '80. My first job paid 800 a month base pay, then 12 dollars an hour instructing, mileage when on charter, 15 an hour if the charter was hourly instead of by mileage.

What self-respecting class 2 instructor would work for $35/hr in this day and age? The old argument, that "if I don't do it, someone else will" doesn't hold.

I haven’t seen a class 2 instructor anywhere in years, so I guess the answer is no one?

The one around me is in fact paying low 30s to mid 50s as bede mentioned but the 2s are around 45 and 1s are in the mid 50s. 3s and 4s are close to the low and mid 30s depending on experience. As far as I know, no one around here pays in the 20s anymore.
