Pacific Coastal Saab 340

Post by ScudRunner »

Went by the South side of YVR the other day and notice a couple of Pasco's Shorts 360 in N regs and livery's removed. Asked some questions of those in the know and it seems they should be getting some SAAB 340's in the new year. And that Calm Air is going to do there Training or has purchased their ops manuel for the Saabs.

2 340's on the way. Should be ready for them in February, or at least that was the status early Nov. I believe they inked the deal around Nov. 7th or 8th.

True, they're A models.

Depends what you want to do with them? Long or short trips? How high do you need to go and at what load?

Good luck getting those things over the rocks, especially with the AI on. You'll need it. Vancouver center is going to be wondering why your requests for shuttle climbs has increased exponentially.

That didn't last for very long they were gone as fast as they showed up. They could have almost had green happy faces on them!! But the ones out west are different airplanes.

Any idea if Pasco will be flying these into Trail?

Underpowerd + hot weather + 4000' runway + narrow valley = trouble

I've seen them bring a couple into Trail. According to the Saab website, the 340A requires 4420 ft at SL to take off. CAD4 strip is 4000 ft.

Can anyone explain this? I'm guessing lighter passenger and fuel loads is enough to get it off the ground before it runs out of pavement??

I left Pasco 10 years ago and they said the Shorts wouldn't work either. Looks like 10 years of safe sked work has passed, and they are now selling them for about the same price they paid.

Do not be fooled Pasco knows there market, and they do it well. Every year it seems two or three people try and move in on there coastal routes... every year two or three companies go.

PASCO's been around for a while, they aren't idiots, they know what they are doing. I love when "think they know it alls" sit at their computer and tell the experters what they are doing wrong.
