Stay home or up North!
Currently flying 702/703 singles and potential future twins ((PA31).
Potential to get medevac job in Norrhern Ontario (PA31s).
Older guy with family home deciding to gain time slower staying home or be away for a while and gain time quicker with training bond.
If I stay I’d be flying more as the weather improves and move on to something better little later.
Family says it’s ok but I have a decision to make.
What would some of you do?

Tough to say without knowing the details. It’s been more than 15 years since I’ve been doing the northern thing, but usually to go left seat in Ontario on a medevac, you will need 500 pic. If the type is a multi it will be 500 mpic. Is there room for progression with your current times and the company you are looking at?Z28 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 10, 2024 6:34 pm Currently flying 702/703 singles and potential future twins ((PA31).

Some of the requirements may have changed.

Leave your family to go fly a 'ho and live on a reserve god knows where?
Unless it was a decent rotation, I wouldn't leave my family.

Medevac in a Navajo doesn't sound like the safest combination either. Flying a King Air deadly tired at night is already challenging enough. No need to throw a low powered piston plane in the icing mix.
I have a feeling you'll be happier staying where you are. I can guarantee you'll want to leave that medevac job behind after a few months.

As an AvCanada discussion grows longer:
-the probability of 'entitlement' being mentioned, approaches 1
-one will be accused of using bad airmanship

If you want a bit of non-essential adventure, take the move. But, it sounds like either way, flying a Navajo is in your future, so I’d probably stay at home.
Other variables: what’s your end goal? Is this a second career for you, after a retirement? How much ‘older’? What age are your kids?

I could be wrong, but having flown for O and also their contractors, there haven’t been any carriers doing medevac with piston aircraft for a long time. Don’t think it’s even allowed anymore and rightly so.
