cessna 208 caravan lands on busy road

Re: cessna 208 caravan lands on busy road
It only climbed to 800' after departure and landed less than 2 minutes after it took off. Intriguing.

All propeller blades bent so still making some power, interesting...

I was more thinking about pre-departure top of the wing contamination compounded with maybe some ice collected on the leading edges once moving fast enough.
It's really just a supposition out of many.

Not sure about that. Blades are feathered, so could have been just windmilling when they hit that fence. the photos I've seen, snow is coming down, top of the wing looks clean, boots look clean. Listening to the ATC recording, they said they had 1100lb of fuel on board.amphibcaravan wrote: ↑Sat Jan 20, 2024 8:41 pm All propeller blades bent so still making some power, interesting...

Yup.
I was curious if the inertial separator was deployed. That’s what it’s called, right?

From my experience on vans the prop loses momentum in a hurry once the engine has been shut down. I would think it would take a good amount of momentum to bend all three blades the way they are in the pictures. I have no experience with in flight shutdowns though (and here's hoping it stays that way)! I thought this video of a total shutdown on a PC12 was interesting, not a whole lot of windmilling there. Different a/c, different prop, different engine of course; but with both being full feathering, pt6 free-turbines I would guess the result would be similar...goldeneagle wrote: ↑Sun Jan 21, 2024 10:36 amNot sure about that. Either way, good on the crew to get it on the ground safely in a tricky spot!
