I'm not referring to the question presented: "Why is more testing required to maintain aviation medicals?" That's a fair question, which I don't have the answer. However, it is deserving of further investigation. Possibly an aging population, increased medical standards, poorer health due to lifestyle decisions, long-covid or vaccine injury? I don't know, and honestly, I don't care enough to pursue it, but I do find it compelling.

I just read a fascinating book called 'The Psychology of Totalitrisim,' by Mattias Desmet, professor of clinical psychology and psychoanalytic psychotherapist. He's the world's leading expert on a phenomenon called 'mass formation psychosis."

Mass formation psychosis is a very complicated and nuanced condition, beginning from loneliness, lack of meaning, isolation, free-floating anxiety, and fear, then spurred on by a critical crisis narrative. Enter "group think" and the demoralization of anyone who dares defy or question the approved narrative. Sound familiar?

Mass formation can be credited for the rise of such amazing times in our history like Nazism and Stalinism.

While Mattias describes the psychological conditions that lead to the dangerous rise of totalitarianism, he does explore the extremes that occur on the other side, like absurd conspiracy theories. No doubt we've seen our share of unreasonable theories, but make no mistake, it's not the conspiracy theorists that we have to worry about.

Another good read, if you're interested, is "Ordinary Men: Reserve Police Battalion 101 and the Final Solution in Poland," by Christopher Browning. Once again, it's not the conspiracy theorists that we should worry about, but the so-called "ordinary men," who believe they're fighting for the greater good.
