But it's far superior in my opinion with the ability to visualize your flight path through the weather with different layer options. And whaddya know, Canadian airports are in there too. I will say though, I do really like the simplicity of AWWS for grabbing the Metar/Tafs. It's way quicker and easier to load in the plane. That's about all I use AWWS for these days though.
Yeah, I already looked at all the options in that page before I posted my comment, but couldn't find any of it. Where can I find the info I mentioned (isobars, fronts and cloud bases/types/tops/oktas specifically)?

Ah ok, ya so the isobars and fronts are in the "front" layer...you have to click the layer menu in the top right corner to see it. Cloud bases are in the drop down menu that says "Flight Category" within the layers menu. And there's a "legend" button near the bottom of the page to interpret all the colours/etc.

Ya good point though, I can't seem to find cloud tops, or the types of clouds/octas/etc. That would be useful info. Maybe I'd have to fiddle around with it some more. I know there's other weather products available in the menus at the top of the page as well, but I haven't spent as much time looking through those options.

Yellow arrows point to the fronts and isobars. Red arrows show the "layers" menu, and the "fronts" layer, and the drop-down menu for the "ceiling" layer

Ok, yeah I see the fronts, but as you say no cloud base/type info, which IMO is critical for x/c flight planning on anything other than a sunny day. Honestly I prefer the awws GFA and I don't really know how Americans can properly flight plan with their site. It is better than it used to be, but still nowhere near as useful as our GFA.

Having said that, I guess there's probably a large percentage of Canadian pilots who don't bother checking the weather properly either, given the head-scratching accident reports we see regularly.

There is actually. Here's an example of forecasted cloud bases with precipitation type overlaid. You have to read the legend for the meaning of all the symbols (it's different from Canadian GFAs). I also attached an example of forecasted cloud tops/bases with octa info. It's all there. Looks like anything other than Metar/taf doesn't show up for Canada though :/ lol, it sounds like I'm trying to sell this to you, but I promise it's free xD

How did you get that cloud top/base info? I checked all the options again, but can't find it at all.

The thermometer icon at the very top of the page is a menu to select different forecast products. If you click on the cloud one, then go to the layers menu on the right side (while in the cloud forecast) there's a bunch of different menu options. I think that one in particular was the cloud tops one.

Yes, its the weather dropdown on desktop devices, although there is no option to display fronts at the same time and i cant tell if it shows precip.

Ahh I'm not sure then. I'm using it in my phone, so maybe it's different :/ I think there is a tutorial/guide somewhere on there as well which might be more informative than my limited knowledge.

Back to the main topic, awws lives on for a little while longer :)

On the bright side, they've made it easier to access their API.

If you're a programmer, you'll know. If not, you won't have any use for it.

What? I was asking where the API is, as it's not listed anywhere on their site. Let's try again with a sensible answer...

I'll try not to reply to sass with sass. (unintended pun)

If you used your browser's developer tools, you would see that it's a react app that uses an API to access the data with GET requests.

Since you didn't do that, it's quite safe to assume that you don't know how to use an API and that this conversation has no value.

No, your assumptions are all incorrect there, and actual professional programmers use published APIs rather than relying on guesswork and hacking, which is likely to break in the future. I take it there is no published API then.

Then use aviationweather.gov.

I guess you're against using roster apps because they access your schedule with non-published APIs too.

Im not against using unpublished apis, just pointing out the risks.

I was asking for a link to a published api and you gave a smartass answer. And i have to say, you give the impression of a teenage hacker living with your parents. Nothing wrong with that, as I used to be like you a long time ago

You guys might want to checkout one of my passion projects: notam.ca and wxbrief.ca
Both sites are using the CFPS data but try to present them in a much more user friendly way (including making them accessible on mobile devices). Some of in my opinion coolest features:
  • Fully mobile friendly
  • GFAs have again tooltips (that even work on mobile) for all airports
  • GFAs have an approximated route drawn onto them
  • Upper Winds are again in a table (and have an easy interpolation tool)
  • NOTAM can be visualized on a map (no more guessing where things are)
  • Most search params are in the URL so you can share that with friends and/or your mobile device without having to re-enter the search
Let me know if anyone has any ideas for improvements/additions to it.

Obviously the obligatory legal disclaimer: Do not trust any of the things you see and I highly recommend you get a weather briefing from a FIC and/or fact check against the official CFPS website.

Really neat!

Some things I'd suggest:
- list the weather per location. So if you have multiple airports, list it as:

Metar A (perhaps latest 3 metars?)
Taf A

METAR B
TAF B

not:
METAR A
METAR B

TAF A
TAF B

- I'd also prefer to see the raw TAF data, not the split up structure, that takes up soo much space on your screen.

But really really nice!
