Thanks.
Hello YHZCL,

We are continuing to hire throughout the coming months. I believe we have filled, or are in the process of filling, the November courses and December will be next on the list. We do have a couple pilots based on the East Coast and if you are interested in applying, please make sure to apply through the careers section of the AirSprint website ( https://www.airsprint.com/careers/ ).

If you have any questions don't hesitate to reach out.

Cheers!

Good morning,

We are continuing to conduct interviews and hire. We've slowed a little in the last few weeks as we've filled the courses up through November, but will be starting more interviews in the very near future.

Cheers,

Hi Av8andsleep,

We expect hiring will resume in May or June and there should be First Officer positions available in YUL at that time. Feel free to reach out directly to me if you would like further updates as we get closer to those dates.

I'll stick my neck out and say Matt is the most stand up chief pilot I've ever worked for and I'd wager a hefty bet that many feel the same. I don't really care if you respond, this is more for anyone else reading this who might be interested in Airsprint. That goes for the whole management team, best I've worked for by a long shot.

HappyFlyer’s favourite hobby is trolling these forums about how his 20,000 hours on King Airs can’t get him a job.
Matt is a standup guy and I’ve never heard anyone say otherwise. Always impressive when management is willing to answer questions on here like he does.

Hello,
I have some more AirSprint questions that I'm quite sure haven't been addressed already. Some are open ended but any info anyone can share would be appreciated. Hopefully some AirSprint pilots or management can chime in. (Though I'm sure we'll hear from the pesky trolls too :)

Schedule:
The website says that you work on reserve.
Are there actually times during your reserve shift where you aren't flying and just at home?
If you start your rotation on a Monday, is it possible you don't leave Monday morning?
Is it possible you make it back home for a little bit of time in the middle or get home early at the end?
Or is it mostly you leave at the start and get home at the end?

Bases
Is there options to move to any base or is it limited by pilot counts? If so is moving seniority based? Any idea how long a new hire would have to wait to get one of the smaller bases?

Layovers
Are the hotels downtown or is it usually whatever is attached to the airport. do you do rental cars? I guess what does an AirSprint layover look like.
Is there much time spent on the ground or no? I guess how many legs is an average day?

Non-Flying Work
What sort of things do you do other than flying?
Are you picking up catering, cleaning the plane, making coffee. I assume you're doing your own flight planning.

Thanks!

Hi RayJr,

I'll do my best to answer your questions below;

- Yes, but not always, each rotation is different, sometimes you can leave on your first reserve day and not return until your last reserve day, other times you may get your first or last reserve days at home, or a reserve day or days in the middle, sometimes you will go an entire rotation without any assigned duties. Some of this is base dependent, if you live at a sub base such as Winnipeg or Quebec City, you're more likely to spend more of your rotation away from base, those pilots based at our main bases in Calgary, Toronto and Montreal are more likely to return to their base during their rotation as we have more movements from those locations.

Bases
Is there options to move to any base or is it limited by pilot counts? If so is moving seniority based? Any idea how long a new hire would have to wait to get one of the smaller bases?

For the most part, pilots get what base they want, however if a pilot desires a different base than the one they are currently in it is treated on a first-come-first-served basis. Each sub-base has a maximum pilot amount largely based on how many aircraft movements and owners we have through that base. We try to keep our pilot numbers even from East to West bases, but right now I know both fleets are heavier in the West so future hiring will likely focus on East bases.

Layovers
Are the hotels downtown or is it usually whatever is attached to the airport. do you do rental cars? I guess what does an AirSprint layover look like.
Is there much time spent on the ground or no? I guess how many legs is an average day?

Normally the hotels are located close to the airport and we do not get rental cars. Each layover is different, some are shorter in the 12-16 hour range, others can be for days at a time. An average duty day for us is 2-3 legs and 8-10 hours of duty.

Non-Flying Work
What sort of things do you do other than flying?
Are you picking up catering, cleaning the plane, making coffee. I assume you're doing your own flight planning.

Normally catering is delivered, but on rare occasions we'll grab some specialty item for the clients if we can't get it delivered to the FBO. We're responsible for cleaning the interior and restocking the commissary between each flight and cleaning off any bugs from the leading edges and windows at the end of the day, normally the FBO handles the making of the coffee. We do have flight planning support that will assist in checking NOTAMs and Weather etc. but ultimately the Captain is responsible for the flight planning.

Hope that helps!

Why? Because he likes to know what he's getting into before signing a 2 year bond?

I didn't see dumping and cleaning the lav on the task list above. Do pilots still have to do that? Might be important to know for some before signing a bond as well.

Hiring update:

We have resumed hiring for our Toronto (CYYZ) and Montreal (CYUL) bases, primarily looking for First Officers in the 2000-3000 hour experience range. There may be a Citation Captain position available later in the summer depending on growth at the same locations.

Full details available on our job posting HERE.

Hi Matt,

Just a quick question regarding your applicable visas requirements for those that do not possess a Canadian passport.

Is it generally a hard requirement at the time of applying for the job? Because for most of us that have a PR with a foreign passport, it's just a matter of a friendly visit to the nearest embassy of the intended country of travel, which might be something that could be done within a month or so. But it generally requires a letter from the employer stating that we need to fly as a crew to these countries. So it's not generally possible to have one readily during job application.

Have you considered applications from those that don't already have these visas and then given them time to apply for them during the time of induction?

Your comments on this will be appreciated.

Hi StrayPilot,

We have hired PR's in the past under the condition that they successfully obtain the applicable US visa's prior to their start date, so not having the visa's in place prior to applying will not necessarily exclude someone from being considered.

Hope that helps!

Hi MidCorp,

That's normally the experience level we try and target for First Officers, with the idea that within 1-2 years they will be eligible/capable of moving to the left seat.

Hi Blueontop,

Unlikely at this point as we try and upgrade from within as much as possible and we do have pilots internally that would qualify for that position. That said I would encourage you to apply so your resume is on file with us!

Hi Matt,

Any updates on hiring for the First Officer role in YUL/YYZ bases? I have applied for the position but I haven't heard anything yet.

Thank you.
