A couple of Jazz questions

Post by metal overcast »

Just wondering if you are put up and fed while on groundschool and sim?
Also what is the deal with 6 month till you can commute on passes?
I understand travel privileges but commuting is not a pleasure trip. :?

View commuting as a privilege, not a right.

If your job is in city X, but you choose to live in city Y, how you get to work is your business. Just because people get this notion of commuting in their head doesn't mean it takes on any more importance. I find it actually rather amazing that Jazz even allows you to miss work if you don't make a flight (sorry, 2 flights) that you're on standby for as a commuter. As if a person who lives in their base city would be extended the same leniency if they got caught in traffic! Suck it up for 6 months, its a huge perk in the long run.

For starters I don't think I said anything out it being my right to commute.
I just asked why the wait. It really does not cost the company anything. I commuted with my last job and did so very responsibly thank you!
If you have a problem take it up with someone who gives a crap! 8)

Pass privileges, with the emphasis on privileges do not start right away...evidently you are aware of that.
The reason for the wait is probably to prevent people from getting a job for the express purpose of saving the airfare for an expensive trip. Granted this probably applies more to jobs that require no qualifications, not necessarily pilots. But, just because you call it commuting doesn't change what it is- pass travel. It would be impossible to police the reason for each and every employee's trip, and therefore the same policy is applied to everyone, even special superpilots who live away from base. :D

I understand what you are saying and thanks for your response. My prior experience was different as were permitted to commute from base to home as a commuter and the program worked great.
Again I will say that I don't give a flying crap about you problem with people who live away from base. We all can't be as fortunate as you to live at base. Believe me commuting really sucks but everyone has circumstances.
Grow up sport.

Metal,

To answer your first question, Yes a hotel room is provided and you are paid per diems while on ground school and sim.

Hope that helps,

Metal,

One more thing your pay starts when you start groundschool. Which is a whole lot better than when I started.

How does 34700 workout to 800 every 2 weeks?
I realize there are taxes and what not, but even an F/O at a tier 3 airline takes home more than that (at the pay level that is the same as JAZZ).

At 34,700 per year it should work out to around $2891.00 per month. That is before taxes.

You're right, but you'd have to fly 14 days in a row to get that. So far from what I've seen, the average block holder flies 14-16 days per month.
