Are the SWG AME’s merged / part of the same negotiations right now?Canadaflyer46 wrote: ↑Sat May 04, 2024 11:42 am It's ok, the execs said they have a plan in place to keep our fleet flying in the event of work stoppages. I honestly didn't realize 737/787 endorsed AMEs were so readily available to keep an airline flying. Should be a breeze!

Make sure you etch into your brain who crossed and who towed the line. Tell all who will listen to not fly Westjet.
Re: Support Westjet AME's
That sucks and puts them in a really awkward position, guaranteed they won’t want to do any work on WJ planes but if SWG says go fix tail ____ they are obligated to.planenuts wrote: ↑Sat May 04, 2024 12:57 pmNo - they are notfish4life wrote: ↑Sat May 04, 2024 11:58 amAre the SWG AME’s merged / part of the same negotiations right now?Canadaflyer46 wrote: ↑Sat May 04, 2024 11:42 am It's ok, the execs said they have a plan in place to keep our fleet flying in the event of work stoppages. Re: Support Westjet AME's
No they aren't - and they wont. Besides - their union and our union would never allow it....not that any of their guys would work on our planes anyways.
Sunwing and Westjet are still 2 completely separate companies. The SWG mechanics are not trained and have no ACA ability on Westjet aircraft. The reverse is true for most Westjet mechanics.
The company has gone and trained mechanics at contract AMO's like Heavy Aero and a few others to try and get around any possible job action.
Re: Support Westjet AME's
Where are the wja mechanics in their pursuit of a good contract?
Re: Support Westjet AME's
I'm curious as well. How'd you WJ guys/gals make out?
Re: Support Westjet AME's
Kaboom.
It will be like nothing one has ever seen

umm....in a good way or bad way?
Any details? Vote ends on June 10 no?
Re: Support Westjet AME's
Depends on your point of view I suppose.
Ends June 11. The vast majority have already voted.

This is fifty years overdue. I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if onex somehow brought in scabs, I’m seeing a ton of Westjet AME ads everywhere right now. Bunch of first year licenses and rushed type endorsements is something I guarantee is crossing their minds.

They have been gearing up 3rd parties for a bit now. The attrition at Westjet is only increasing too, and the company is threatening to outsource it's maintenance.

But, but think of the teamwork. Where did all the good feelings go?

Re: Support Westjet AME's
Airlines in Canada are heavily monopolized thus keeping rates for workers down. In the USA there is way more protection for competitors and local workers (even under the Biden administration). It’s gut wrenching seeing so many talented ames being treated worse than trash. Globalization started this crap in the late 80s and has since been manipulated by operators to their advantage ever since. No wonder so many millions of dollars of endorsements and hundreds of years of experience lay dormant with zero appetite to return.planenuts wrote: ↑Fri May 31, 2024 3:25 pmOh - it is. 100%Bug_Stomper_01 wrote: ↑Fri May 31, 2024 9:57 amThis is fifty years overdue. Re: Support Westjet AME's
Not sure the exact numbers but, it was over 500 eligible voters. 99% of them voted, 97.25% of them voted to reject. So about 10 or so votes was for it
Re: Support Westjet AME's
Strike time.
If Westjet thinks crying to the government and empty threats are going to make us settle.....they are dead wrong. This is about to get ugly and we are ready for a fight.

Re: Support Westjet AME's
Are you back to the bargaining table? Does it require another vote or will the rep say bugger off and you walk out?
Re: Support Westjet AME's
Yea...they are going back to the table. The government told Westjet to pound sand and figure it out yourself...so they came back to negotiate. They have meetings scheduled for June 25, 26 and July 3, 4. If they drag their heels or we don't like something we will walk. Strike mandate is good till July 9
Re: Support Westjet AME's
ok thanks, I hope you guys get a decent increase, the AME wages have been a joke way to long.
