WestJet Encore taking WestJet Link Routes
100% this was suppose to be spun off as "since you accepted the contract we elected to recapture some flying for you folks"
Shame management wasn't able to spin it off this time to their narrative /s
It shows even more demand for Encore pilots from management. I have no skin in the game but I hope Encore pilots realize this. If it's anything like Jazz back pre mergers not having threats of another carrier taking your flying if you don't accept is refreshing.

Re: WestJet Encore taking WestJet Link Routes
I don't get it though. If they don't have enough pilots to crew all their planes, why go after more flying?

Re: WestJet Encore taking WestJet Link Routes
The play is simple:
1. End the CPA with Pasco.
2. Offer the Pasco pilots who were laid off positions at Encore.
3. Fly the Pasco routes at reduced frequency and use the extra pilots to bolster the company's capability in other markets.
Re: WestJet Encore taking WestJet Link Routes
The reality is more likely Pasco said, we need more money because we are having trouble attracting/retaining pilots, WJ ran the numbers for 37 seats and said, nope.dontcallmeshirley wrote: ↑Tue May 14, 2024 6:42 amThe play is simple:

When pilots are more expensive or in short supply? You up-gauge and put more people behind them. This spreads higher pilot costs across more seats lowering CASM.
Smaller aircraft get harder to make financially viable.
Put the 737 on some high frequency Q routes and reduce frequency.
This is the lesson. The pilot shortage is not a freebie. The company has cards to play. You’re not going to get paid what you are worth until you make them. Full stop.
Re: WestJet Encore taking WestJet Link Routes
This to a greater degree is happening all over the US as well a mix of lack of pilots and pilot CASM is making US carriers upgauge to mainline aircraft and reduce frequency with larger aircraft. The cost of a Captain and FO on a SAAB is going to be very similar to a Q except with half the seats.
