Tax Deductible Recurent Training
Hey all,
Wanted to ask a question about flight training and taxes. Ill be submitting for my ATPL in the coming months and the only thing needed is a group 1 recurrent as my previous one expired sometime ago.
Ill be heading to a local FTU in the near future to get this taken care of but my question is, is the training conducted for a Group 1 Recurrent ride specifically for the issuance of an ATPL which is considered "advancement in a current profession" tax deductible.
Im not in college as I graduated many years ago, but could i claim this amount on my taxes under a different tax avenue (not a T2202)
I have reached out to the CRA still awaiting a response.
Appreciate the help.

In my experience - I claim everything! (17 yrs worth!! haha) Books (although not counted anymore stupid libs) and any and everything under the education credits - hell even my pens I use. If you're training esp at an FTU - they'll give you a T2202 form. Or you can ask for your invoice and claim it. Anything (from this tax season because I'm a nerd and like as much of my money back as possible) I was able to claim any online education items and anything related to any physical upgrading I did last year.
CRA will def know but that's been my experience.
Good luck!

Years ago when I was training my school said you have to fly a certain number of hours a month to qualify for the T2202Ruger Princess wrote: ↑Sun Jun 02, 2024 7:46 pm In my experience - I claim everything! So I use Intuit Tax software because I'm too lazy to look for but super keen to find, all the extras you can claim. This is how I found out about claiming training. I keep all receipts but so far, have never had a complaint.newlygrounded wrote: ↑Mon Jun 03, 2024 6:49 pmYears ago when I was training my school said you have to fly a certain number of hours a month to qualify for the T2202Ruger Princess wrote: ↑Sun Jun 02, 2024 7:46 pm In my experience - I claim everything! Newly grounded, how did you treat claiming your expenses for your commercial licence? How did you file it back then? Think thats what people are askingnewlygrounded wrote: ↑Mon Jun 03, 2024 6:49 pmYears ago when I was training my school said you have to fly a certain number of hours a month to qualify for the T2202Ruger Princess wrote: ↑Sun Jun 02, 2024 7:46 pm In my experience - I claim everything! I never made it that far, but basically what I was told was that you'll need that t2202 form for at least the flight training in the airplane. You can't just claim the hours on your taxes without it. Sorry for any confusion!rookiepilot wrote: ↑Tue Jun 04, 2024 8:54 amNewly grounded, how did you treat claiming your expenses for your commercial licence? How did you file it back then?
