First of many small operations, potentially, to experience issues is my guess.

NA economy appears to be slowing rapidly.

Doom and gloom for the past 10? years. Their contract didn't have a clause for inflation or cost increases

Newlygrounded, I read your insulting response and wasn’t going to bother. Its exactly this kind of post why I really don’t care much about offering much here from my world anymore.

I have made my living in the financial markets for the last 30 years. I started with absolutely nothing, a long time ago. This is what I do, managing my own money. This has paid for everything from a house — bought cash — to cars, an airplane and my licenses — ditto, and time to volunteer. I could always be wrong, but I still think one whale of a recession is imbound, and their is no easy fix this time.

It gives me no pleasure to say so, that other operations are likely to imperiled by the realities of the economy in Canada that is crushing countless other small businesses. I don’t want to see job losses, but a more difficult economic environment is fully here and why I have counseled many people to prepare for the last two or three years, especially to avoid debt. I am involved with a couple of charities, who actually listened to my advice and built a reserve for harder times. They are thankful today they did so, as donations plummet.

Air services ect simply won’t be immune from any of these secular forces. In addition the US economy, in which Canada is largely dependent, is slowly rapidly, but inflation is not. This factually represented by the data. It is what it is, and its rapidly getting ugly. I’d like to be wrong, but all indications are pointing in the wrong direction for all of us.

Good day.

LoL. Only took the US gov draining their SPR to hold it down…anyway Bob, by your comments I’m putting you firmly in the “predicting no recession/ stagnation in coming years” , let’s see how your prediction ages.

I don't understand why a purchase of 3 million barrels makes the news. The US consumes 21.6 million barrels of oil every day, so 3 million barrels of oil is about 2 hours and 45 minutes worth of fuel for that country. How does that make a material difference? I'm not an economics major and it's a genuine question.

Because it's used for refilling the Strategic Petroleum Reserve, not for regular public consumption. rookie's argument was that the reason the price of oil hasn't hit $200/bbl is because the US is depleting the SPR in order to keep prices low, but in reality they haven't sold any out of the SPR since 2022 and they've started to buy some back to refill it. Not only are they not keeping prices down, but that increase in demand should, in theory, result in the price increasing.

I didn’t say they were draining it now. Draining it held the price down a lot in 2022, as did the Russians finding black markets for their oil around the sanctions. I also said, at the time that any recession obviously negates such a price spike. Thats where we are now — sure interesting the price is falling as the US starts to refill a few ounces. I’d be worried about bigger things than my price predictions.

To be fair though - do you honestly see this in airline world?! Not even anytime soon let alone all the mineral resources would be long used up for phones, cars, laptops, etc. Like this isn't even a consideration esp due to weight but also - pretty sure all Space X's planes aren't using electric to get to the ISS, moon, and Mars.

Batteries are good for phones not for planes and not for cars. But then my Porsche is a diesel and I LOVE her!!!! Also it's the last yr Porsche made their diesel before, like the aviation world, were hamstrung by Eco-terrorists. Like burning extinct dinosaurs is something to be ashamed of.

But I digress. Cute little plane. Looks like a 150

I am seeing a CMA Cargo 1900D in YYJ everyday now so I guess they have taken over the YVR-YYJ run. The economics of that puzzle me though, as there is only a Caravan loads worth of freight on that run and the airplane sits all day in YYJ. Running a 1900 with 2 drivers is going to cost much more than Skylink were asking for a single pilot Caravan on that run

My only guess is cheaper than paying people MMG to sit at home

Pretty sure it's for Standard Press region but maybe they're just lucky to have initials similar to aviation.

Probs. CMA has been running for a long time and a quick hop from Van to Vict would be cheap. I remember flying on them from Grand Prairie to Dawson Creek. Literally the fuel they used to start up exceeded us 6 pax for the 15 min flt. I even asked the pilot (was not one back then) how they have flts for 15 mins. But it was the milk run. GP, Ft ST John, Dawson. So, they're smart for trying to at least try to take over some Cargo. They don't have any bases left here in Alberta except YEG and YOJ. YYC is just a head-office although I see their planes here sometimes. Smart move to try though.

The economics of all of this rarely makes any sense.

It’s why there alway seems to be a parade of bottom feeder operators willing to take the role either not doing the math correctly or hoping it will get better somehow.

CMA after losing Air Canada CPA seems to just be doing whatever it can to survive whether it’s sched flying nobody else will do, ad hoc charters, or cargo.

PAL got some CPA flying, maybe CMA will run freight and jazz runs soon. East coast, west coast…. AC don’t care.

It’s gonna do what it do.
