Re: Air Cadets Training contract
If only we could tell those in government procurement that a long lasting contract is the only way to make it in the civilian sector.
They are so divorced from reality that they expect companies to just have staff and planes on standby on a whim.
The risk appetite isn’t there anymore. Aviation is running out of people and organizations who see busyness as a good thing when it’s driving them further and further into the hole the more they fly.

I'm curious what mods are done to make them 'highly modified'. I've seen them doing circuits at Courtenay Airpark a while back, they dont look much different from a stock 182 on the outside, other than the paint job which is rather unique.

I doubt that's them. They generally train at YQQgoldeneagle wrote: ↑Sat Jun 15, 2024 12:26 pmI'm curious what mods are done to make them 'highly modified'. It's always parked at YQQ, and yes it was them, paint job is very distinctive, no mistaking it, and since the airpark is all of 2 or 3 miles from YQQ, it's not unusual to see them there.Me262 wrote: ↑Sat Jun 15, 2024 12:40 pmI doubt that's them. Kind of like aerial suppression contracts. Buy/modify a 20-30 m dollar aircraft, train up crews and add that overhead to your contract bid......what if I don't win the bid because of the price necessary to absorb capital costs....... Well that isn't our problem.‘Bob’ wrote: ↑Sat Jun 15, 2024 9:05 am If only we could tell those in government procurement that a long lasting contract is the only way to make it in the civilian sector.

Wow neat, I thought it had to be a tail dragger for some reason.
Safety starts with two

I've only ever seen 2 parked in the tie downs driving past the base. Are the other 4 based somewhere else ?
Re: Air Cadets Training contract
Yes, they support air cadets throughout BC. You can see them in Pitt Meadows, Langley, Abbotsford, Prince George, Oliver, Kamloops, Trail, Cranbrook and others. Sometimes just the 182, sometimes with gliders.I've only ever seen 2 parked in the tie downs driving past the base. Are the other 4 based somewhere else ?

Interesting. I've seen gliders parked at various other places, but YQQ is the only place I've seen the 182.kevind wrote: ↑Tue Jun 18, 2024 9:04 amYes, they support air cadets throughout BC. Sounds like a decent tow machine with those mods. I'm curious, can they pull two at a time with that machine ? Seems like it would have the power and performance to pull two gliders.

Wonder if they're holding back on offering the program this year? Last year was pretty abysmal. Very few made it to solo and of those that did, even less got their license. By the time the kids get to the power squadron level, they've taken some form of ground school several times and have typically have some glider time. Since COVID caused a lot of that training to be cancelled, they were really behind the 8 ball to cram all that training in 7 weeks.Big Pistons Forever wrote: ↑Fri Jun 14, 2024 10:53 pm The power courses are supposed to start in 2 weeks and FTU’e are still waiting for a formal contract. That is just bad management

Yes. Kiddo got his intake form the other day. Going up to SeaLand in CYBL. Training on C172s, though - which is somewhat sad, as I was hoping he’d learn on the electric Pipistrel…

It will be much better experience to learn how to operate a piston engine.

AFAIK, they only use the electric for basic ab-initio in the circuit - anything longer in the practice area and Xc is done in a piston.

I’d hate to have an engine failure cuz I was charging my cellphone at the same time
