I've posted this before, but go dig up articles in respected newspapers like the Globe about strikes in the last few years, especially in aviation.
Look at the comments. The public is angry at government and corporations, and are, as a majority, sympathetic towards the striking workers. Given people are 7x more likely to post a negative comment than a positive one, that gives you very strong evidence of where they stand- and that's in support of workers today.
However, when it comes to AC's reputation, it unfortunately perpetually has a slight colour to it, and that colour is brown, but it's not like this will be a battle against public opinion, far from it.

Because it’s against the charter. It’s been ruled on years ago.rookiepilot wrote: ↑Thu Aug 01, 2024 6:17 pmWell, thats a problem isn’t it. Why wouldn’t the NDP / Libtards legislate you back to work? Seems no political downside.

I am on the pilots side of course. I was just wondering how per the other poster, you all plan to get the public sympathy.
Don’t send out Ripple for that press conference LOL.

Public suppport is generally opposing executive big wigs and their 233% salary increases. Doesn't seem to matter which employee group is striking.
WJ management told the public "we pay our pilots more than the prime minister makes". Public didn't seem to care that much. Onex was still the big bad investment firm that profits off rampant inflation and should pay all their employees better.
LCBO strike, people couldn't buy most of their booze. It affected almost everyone in Ontario. Even then, the support was generally in favour of the workers. With an airline strike, not everyone is going flying all at once. Most people won't be directly affected. The public blame generally falls onto management, even for those that are affected.

You are making uneducated comments. No one with "30 years in the industry" would ever say the things you do.
Now you're just looking like an idiot. At best you are a junior investor making day trades from your Mom's basement.
Why are you still here? You will convince no one of anything other than highlighting your ignorance. If that's your goal, keep it up, you're doing great.
The fact is, you are a troll. Find another thread to pollute.

There are only two ways to “ get this done”
1) The company makes an acceptable offer without a gun to their head. Unlikely and completely in their control.
2) ALPA runs through the hoops required for strike as quickly as possible. It’s a 90 plus day process.
44 days to go. That is as fast as we have control over.

You know we voluntarily left a 10 year contract a year early (as allowed under the framework) to get a better deal right? Then the company didn’t appropriately come to the table to negotiate after our notice to bargain. The absolute earliest we could have been in the position we are in now would have been approx April.
We left the deal early because it was so terrible. Especially for the new hires. So no extension wanted. And there is no friendly. We can’t negotiate a new contract with ourselves.
Not to mention if we didn’t opt out early. We would be just starting the whole process now, which by your assessment, is a worse time.

Re: It is imminent.......be ready.
Well. The company wasn’t going to volunteer increased wawcon when there was no reason to from their perspective. Although they kinda tried I supposed with the MOA which was voted down massively. So the union took the only other path available, to attempt early negotiation, which was opting out. Effectively trying to accomplish your suggestion.
If the company won’t meet the expectations of the pilot group under risk of labour action, there is little reason to think that they would without it.

There seems to be a level of importance assigned to "engaging the Troll".
Rookie isn't an AC pilot. He obviously knows little about how the industry works at this level. He reminds me of "accountant" in more than a few ways.
Why waste your time engaging this Muppet? He's just on a fishing expedition.

Don’t send out Ripple for that press conference LOL.
AME’s have a stronger sympathy vote than pilots, IMO
Some of us get a bit triggered due to the seriousness of the subject matter.
I said this many months ago. Get it done.
Your bargaining position gets worse by the month now.
Call it how I see it.
Don’t F it up for the sake of the young pilots getting screwed over in Canada.
Here Rookie claims he's an analyst for 30 years. Right.

I wouldn't send myself out for a press conference either. To many people making too many BS, poorly thought out comments. Others making comments on topics they clearly have limited information on.

And trade off that.
Good luck Fred.

Re: It is imminent.......be ready.
You're just a bored slimeball. Having a Commercial license and clearly no industry experience doesn't make you the immediate "go to" on this subject. It certainly created someone who is "self important"......"look at me, I'm an expert".
30 years as an analyst puts you over 50. But you are an advocate for "young pilots". Right. More like you just missed the boat, your sick of your 9-5 desk job and it's left you a bit sour. Now you're hard into berating those that were successful in the industry and working for the Majors.
Guys like you are a "dime a dozen". You know what they say about "opinions".....they are like As#@%*$....everyone has one.
Find something better to do with your day off.
Oh ya......GFY.

It was attempted.rookiepilot wrote: ↑Sat Aug 03, 2024 10:41 amUnderstood. Too bad a friendly early extension couldn’t have been negotiated a year ago, when stock prices were higher and demand unlimited. I really think your union F— ed up royally if they didn’t even try. Who is running the shop? RippleChips? Seriously. Now the business cycle has turned.Fanblade wrote: ↑Sat Aug 03, 2024 9:19 amrookiepilot wrote: ↑Sat Aug 03, 2024 6:50 am

Agreed. 1000%rookiepilot wrote: ↑Sat Aug 03, 2024 6:50 am

The below matters. Now it will be a hard slog. They will slaughter you guys in the press as entitled. Its too bad.

May 2023. Before we exited the 10 year framework early. The company was asked if they would like to make an offer to keep us in it.
The company's response was they thought 2% and B1 passes were a good deal.
So we pulled out of the framework and tried to negotiate.
July 2023 through Dec 2023. We made proposals to the company with next to nothing coming our way over the table.
Jan 2024. After not negotiating for six months. Zero done. AC makes it clear they are going to apply for conciliation and drive the dispute to a lockout in April 2024.
Mid January 2024. A deal is reached to stave off a lockout in April 2024. ALPA agrees to Mediation with the caveat if AC doesn't negotiate, the deal will be pulled leaving us in a summer strike position. Under that pressure AC begins to negotiate short of the big ticket items. By June 2024, summer is now safe for them, AC tables an offer that is far below our pre bankruptcy wages.
ALPA exits mediation as a result and starts the countdown to strike.
Unfortunately there is only one way to MAKE an employer negotiate, that doesn't want to.
