Is my license number printed anywhere but my license?

Post by macdonjo »

I'm a bit of a bind.

I moved to the US a while back and I'm now working on getting my license here. However, they need my Canadian license ID number to verify my Canadian pilot license. The problem is, it's at my parents house in Canada, but they're currently moving so it's locked deep in one of three storage containers for the next couple months. Asking them to empty the storage containers for me for this government form is not really an option.

I'm searching old email accounts for the license but no luck.

Is there anyway or anywhere I could find my number besides the physical booklet?

Tc online services (that portal with all your exam results) should have that listed somewhere. It would only work if you already have an account though, as I believe you need your license number to sign up. And it takes a while to get access approved as well.

Also, won't the US need your original license at some point to as well? Or at least a scan or photocopy.

As an AvCanada discussion grows longer:
-the probability of 'entitlement' being mentioned, approaches 1
-one will be accused of using bad airmanship

You could call the tc civil aviation offices or send them an email. But the latter would probably take longer and they’d probably need to verify your info anyway.

Pro tip: it’s one of those numbers you should always know

Maybe your Canadian medical doctor has the file number?

Your file number is your license number preceded by PA, or CA, or AA

Are you talking about your License # or the booklet doc #?

Did you rent or train anywhere since getting the booklet? Call them, they'll likely have a photocopy of it. Booklet # is printed on the medical stickers as well.. If it's just the license # the ftu will obv have it.

Also, just go to the civil Aviation website, sign in through a sign-in partner like your bank. Not sure if you need your license to log in though

Thanks everyone!

I tried the portal and logged in with my bank but it does ask for my license number to setup the account. I didn't know about this portal so have not set it up in the past.

I just emailed the flight school I used to rent from. If that fails, I will email my TC doctor as you recommended.

Fingers crossed. Thanks again for the ideas.

TC can email you a PDF Temporary Licence. If you’re old enough to remember a world before the ADB, it’s the exact paper licence they used then.

Get hold of TC Civil Aviation at one of their Regional Offices by phone and you should have it in a day or two.

I went via this list:
