It all depends on timing with this industry.

For the most part the more qualifications you can check off on the application the better. During periods of slower hiring it becomes more competitive and the recruiters can scrutinize the application vs others - usually by weighting points to certain items (creating a matrix). When the hiring cycle is dynamic the same matrix is used however the recruiting process is faster and thins out the application pool for a more diverse experience level entering the companies.

Don't get discouraged with the process, the timing right now for some companies isn't great as the shoulder season approaches and most companies do not want any resources locked up in training during Christmas season. Typically November and May in the airline world is slower with peak months to follow. Many moons ago when I was in your shoes someone wiser told me to move to a busier center, get on a bigger aircraft (Medium or bigger), and do what I could to help my current company with other tasks (training/checking, OSH). Those all added to the matrix vs flying light to medium A/C in the North. The industry has changed since, however the cycles still exist.

Not knowing where you are applying, try getting someone you know to walk you into the office and introduce you to the CP/HR teams which allows those with a pile of resumes to put a face to the name. Shows desire and initiative on your part and gives the CP/HR team someone they can call upon for a reference at the same time. May move your resume higher on the pile.

Unsuccessful Interviews happen all the time, I've had my share. Each time when reflecting on the interview I learn something about me, the answers given, different techniques (HR Behavioral Interview), and areas I need to improve on or take more responsibility in.

Can't speak to the current state of all 705 operators, however regarding WestJet and Sunwing right now the hiring has slowed down as integration of the lists by the arbitrator nears at the end of October. Once complete, those who develop the business unit will have more clarity on Positions and numbers in base.
