I have a feeling there's going to be a lot of regret from Yes voters. It's not too late to change your vote.

What's the starting FA wage at the leaf flag carrier? 30$/hr for 75MMG? So below minimum wage?Daniel Cooper wrote: ↑Fri Oct 04, 2024 2:37 pm American Airlines Flight Attendants Win 33% Pay Raise

Those are good salaries for an FA position. As always though media headlines are often misleading. New hire FAs at AA are increasing to;Daniel Cooper wrote: ↑Fri Oct 04, 2024 2:37 pm American Airlines Flight Attendants Win 33% Pay Raise

New FA hirees' hourly salaries will increase from US$30.35 to US$35.82. So a little over $34,000/year in usd. Nowhere near the salary range claimed in the headline.

Be a longshoreman?
No one wants to do hard physical, dirty labour.
Everyone wants to be a pilot.

I also see that in B.C it tops out at 65/hr, median 47/hr and as low as 18/hr, interesting, starting out you are less than a third of the top, I wonder if YOS plays a factor(rhetorical)

Just FYI, longshoremen work the docks, loading and unloading ships with cranes, etc. I had to look it up as I was curious what a 62% increase would be!CaptDukeNukem wrote: ↑Sat Oct 05, 2024 9:52 amWe all love a good fish n chips on layovers. It is a very important job for the economy. Unlike ours when we didn't fly for two years and everyone was ok.

It also pays less. Remember that 65% is over 6 years, not right away.. and tops out at $130k six years from now based on 40 hour work week.Jean-Pierre wrote: ↑Sat Oct 05, 2024 12:15 pm It is a very important job for the economy. Unlike ours when we didn't fly for two years and everyone was ok.

Does it require a 100k ticket to do the job?‘Bob’ wrote: ↑Sat Oct 05, 2024 1:18 pmIt also pays less. Re: Long shoremen get 62% raise
Longshoremen in the US are also seeing the automation happening in Chinese ports, and are coming to a realization that the need for them will be cut by 80% in less than 10 years. This was truly a senior union members eating their young.
Re: Long shoremen get 62% raise
How, I thought their strike was for two things, pay and job protection?
Edited to add, it appears the wages were agreed to while an extension to continue bargaining on automation, so it’s a little premature to say they ate their young!

Watch this youtube video about the successful rollout of 5G automated port operations in Shangdong China, and then tell me that they didn't sell the future generations away. Increasing costs of labour at a rapid pace means more incentive for automating processes away. That's why AI tech is destroying "well-paying office jobs" before trades.

777 Purser 2024 - $87.01 (Year 10)
First Officer 2024 - $87.48 (after being in the industry for average 10 years)

Spending 100K on education doesn’t, and shouldn’t, guarantee anything in life.
Millions of college grads learn that the hard way.

If people spend 100k on a business degree and end up working the docks it’s a lot different than going and working the docks.rookiepilot wrote: ↑Sun Oct 06, 2024 2:38 pmThats not how life works.

However, if you REQUIRE a license to do your job and you spend a fortune doing it, then yes it should matter
Re: Long shoremen get 62% raise
The long shore is a big joke, most guys getting the jobs are either gang bangers looking for some declarable income so they buy an application from a member for 50k+ cash or kids of senior members who got the application from their pops.CaptDukeNukem wrote: ↑Sat Oct 05, 2024 1:22 pmDoes it require a 100k ticket to do the job?‘Bob’ wrote: ↑Sat Oct 05, 2024 1:18 pmIt also pays less. There are dudes with tickets (not a hiring requirement) that work there but majority are just bone heads that got hooked up with an application and a monkey could probably do their job.
Unfortunately the ports are vital to the economy and the union takes advantage of this. If you look back at their last strike, dudes were sitting in the parking lot drinking and roasting pigs.
