When are swoop planes getting painted?
Couple questions here:
1) is there a plan to take off the stickers that say “operated by WestJet” and actually paint these things or are they gonna fly them for years with the pink livery?
2) have they been outfitted with wifi / entertainment or is that still an issue with people that pay for WestJet but get swoop equipment?

Re: When are swoop planes getting painted?
1) Yes and yes. There is a plan, but it makes no money to take a plane out of service, fly a thousand miles, and paint it. It'll likely be a minimum of several more months to a more likely year or two.CaptDukeNukem wrote: ↑Mon Oct 28, 2024 6:58 pm Couple questions here:

2) No, see 1.

When did AC start painting their planes? After all these years there is still lots of them with the ugly old paint job.

Good point. I guess if you wait long enough the toothpaste color will return in style.mantogasrsrwy wrote: ↑Mon Oct 28, 2024 7:24 pm When did AC start painting their planes? After all these years there is still lots of them with the ugly old paint job.
The only difference I guess in this case, is that swoop no longer exists.

They could at the very least pull a couple bigger stickers and make it look like they are trying…, kinda like bonza and flair.

Re: When are swoop planes getting painted?
If they can't paint the swoop planes, imagine how long the Sunwing planes are going to be flying around in their current livery with "Operated by WestJet" stickers on the side. Same with the acquired Lynx aircraft.

Re: When are swoop planes getting painted?
Does anyone ever see Delta, United, JetBlue, Southwest or even Spirit flying around with old paint schemes? Or is it just a Canadian thing to have old paint on our planes?
Re: When are swoop planes getting painted?
United has lots of planes flying around in the old United/Continental hybrid paint...goingnowherefast wrote: ↑Tue Oct 29, 2024 6:57 am Does anyone ever see Delta, United, JetBlue, Southwest or even Spirit flying around with old paint schemes? Old paint is one thing. Flying planes with paint from an airline that no longer exists is an entirely different topicgoingnowherefast wrote: ↑Tue Oct 29, 2024 6:57 am Does anyone ever see Delta, United, JetBlue, Southwest or even Spirit flying around with old paint schemes? At least it had the same colours and basically the same pattern. Swoop and WJ worlds apart in both.
Re: When are swoop planes getting painted?
Every airline CEO wants to ‘re-launch’ the airline (fresh start). Seems many feel that new branding (paint job/uniforms) is part of that.CaptDukeNukem wrote: ↑Tue Oct 29, 2024 7:20 amOld paint is one thing. RM was responsible for the bird’s egg blue (post-CCAA) and CR was the current AC white and black. MR hasn’t done anything (yet). Still lots of AC planes flying around in the 2004 vintage paint. Some looking very tired…….
Re: When are swoop planes getting painted?
Yup fair points, I was more referring to the AC old/new scheme, indeed the whole swoop paint and operated by westjet seems a bit odd to be flying around like that indefinitelyCaptDukeNukem wrote: ↑Tue Oct 29, 2024 7:23 amYea the continental argument I can get onboard with.twa22 wrote: ↑Tue Oct 29, 2024 6:59 amUnited has lots of planes flying around in the old United/Continental hybrid paint...goingnowherefast wrote: ↑Tue Oct 29, 2024 6:57 am Does anyone ever see Delta, United, JetBlue, Southwest or even Spirit flying around with old paint schemes? The Lynx aircraft were prioritized for repainting, and I believe they have now all been completed.

I'm pretty sure I saw the rainbow Spirit paint scheme in New York a week or two ago.goingnowherefast wrote: ↑Tue Oct 29, 2024 6:57 am Does anyone ever see Delta, United, JetBlue, Southwest or even Spirit flying around with old paint schemes? It took four years for Delta to paint all of it's mainline aircraft.

And yet 20 years later, we still doing walkarounds on old cracked toothpaste blue paint schemes by AC, or stickers masking the previous ownerdontcallmeshirley wrote: ↑Tue Oct 29, 2024 8:10 amI'm pretty sure I saw the rainbow Spirit paint scheme in New York a week or two ago.goingnowherefast wrote: ↑Tue Oct 29, 2024 6:57 am Does anyone ever see Delta, United, JetBlue, Southwest or even Spirit flying around with old paint schemes? The 10 Swoop NGs have the inflight entertainment that all Westjet tails have. The 6 Swoop Max's and 9 Lynx tails do not have entertainment.CaptDukeNukem wrote: ↑Mon Oct 28, 2024 6:58 pm

It took Delta 14 years to paint all of it's aircraft in a single livery.CaptDukeNukem wrote: ↑Tue Oct 29, 2024 8:33 am And yet 20 years later, we still doing walkarounds on old cracked toothpaste blue paint schemes by AC, or stickers masking the previous owner
I for one don't really care what the plane is painted in.... most people won't see it or care. The mechanical and interior cosmetic status are what get noticed.
Re: When are swoop planes getting painted?
Air Canada still has some planes flying around in the old TCA Trans Canada Airlines colours. Talking about slow, when was that changed 1966 ?

Re: When are swoop planes getting painted?
I disagree. I think people look out the window when the plane pulls up. That’s the first impression. Especially if they purchased a ticket on WestJet, and a “Swoop” plane parks at their gate. First impressions top the charts as to satisfaction scoresdontcallmeshirley wrote: ↑Tue Oct 29, 2024 10:44 amIt took Delta 14 years to paint all of it's aircraft in a single livery.CaptDukeNukem wrote: ↑Tue Oct 29, 2024 8:33 am And yet 20 years later, we still doing walkarounds on old cracked toothpaste blue paint schemes by AC, or stickers masking the previous owner

Already, they are confused at a minimum.
Marketing and branding is huge these days. And delaying aircraft repainting of a now defunct airline is absolutely ridiculous.
Lynx planes got painted quick fast, because they weren’t their own planes.
I’m suggesting that the world needs to strike off that “swoop” as fast as possible. This was all calculated in costs during ALPA and company meetings I’m sure
Maybe someone could provide info as to how many WJ planes are still painted pink.

Re: When are swoop planes getting painted?
I believe the plan is to have them all painted, cabins standardized and equipped with the Starlink/Telus wifi within 18 months. That is to say, interior standardized fleet wide, old Swoop, Lynx and Sunwing tails painted in WJ livery, and the balance of the fleet with the old WJ livery probably painted when it's economical to do so in terms of each tail's maintenance schedule.
I agree that the exterior is definitely an aspect of customer satisfaction and ultimately what the bean counters care about; the NPS, but I think that arriving on time with bags, and not feeling resentful about the value proposition (price vs service level and interactions with staff) are far more important than the exterior appearance.

Look, it's f***in Patrick Swayze and Reveen!

Has WJ repainted its Disney planes that it no longer has contracts with? I haven’t seen them around

Re: When are swoop planes getting painted?
100% agree that it needs to coincide with maintenance schedules. But this is already far exceeding the time frame for maintenance versus when WestJet regained swoop flying , thus ending swoopGear Jerker wrote: ↑Wed Oct 30, 2024 9:24 am I believe the plan is to have them all painted, cabins standardized and equipped with the Starlink/Telus wifi within 18 months.
